Who needs Melo when you have Nick Johnson.

 

Disgusting! I mean sick! I mean whatever you say when you are impressed. It's not just about the dunks, it's his handles and ball control. Reminds me of a young Kenny Smith. He's going to fight for time with that defense he has. I think he could beat out Jeremy I-only-play-to-get-on-Sportscenter-and-wear-7-all-day-so-defense-don't-matter Lin for playing time. Impressive handles and I'd assume he's a pretty smart about choosing dribble or timeout at the end of playoff games seeing he was PAC 12 POY.

I'm going to my car to get my sunglasses. Then I'm watching that highlight again.

 

From what the media has said, I think the organization has hinted they plan on having him on the Rockets' roster at some point this season. Backcourt defense is a big need for the team. Johnson is instantly our best defending guard behind Beverley.

I think that is a reasonable hope, but I wouldn't be so sure of it that I would bet the deed to my house on it happening. When they said that, I don't think they were so sure of it happening that they stopped planning for other eventualities, in case it didn't come to pass.

There have been plenty of extremely successful 2nd rounders who didn't play a single productive minute of NBA basketball as a rookie.

I think guys like DMO and White got built up so much after summer league that when the regular season came around and they didn't live up to the unrealistic expectations, there was a whole lot of unwarranted hate piled on them (OK, not unwarranted tor White). I think the same might have happened for Green and Jeremy Lamb, too, if they hadn't been traded.

I'm suggesting avoiding the whole roller coaster emotional swing of manic hope, followed by crushing disappointment.

He's intriguing, but I don't think you should pin your hopes on him after 1 summer game.

Whether he makes it or not, Johnson clearly is a Rockets type player. Top athleticism and shooting ability for our paint-and-3s offense. And yet another one of those large wingspan player who'd be picked much higher if he were 2 inches taller.

 

Agreed...personally though, i think none of those guys had the attitude necessary to make an impact in year one. I think Johnson does and that's what the team sees. He's got a good bball IQ and stressed the importance of being professional in various ways. It really seems like he's bought into whatever his father and uncle have advised him to do to be successful in this league.

Hmmm, he'll be making the trip to Manila to play our national team in exhibitions around Jul 23-24 I think. He has the same agent as Lillard and DeRozan.
