Overall he was a huge disappointment and the vast majority of the board will be happy to have him and his legion of delusional fans gone. Starting a thread after he's traded just invites the lunatics to hang around a little longer. I think it's best to just wash our hands of what was a horrible move on Les's part.

yes, we spent last year's $3M on the Asik trade + buying the draft pick. After July 1st, I believe we got another $3M to spend.

Wrong. Gentile's cash was from 2013-2014 season. Asik trade used this season's cash allowance. We still have about 1.8 million.

I don't know if the precise amount of cash used to acquire the draft rights to Gentile was ever reported, but the Rockets only had about $1.48M left of their 2013-14 annual cash limit to use. (My guess is that it was less than that.)

The Rockets have $3.3M in cash to use during the 2014-15 season. Of that, $1.5M has been dedicated to New Orleans in the Asik trade, which leaves $1.8M remaining to use in a Lin trade (or any other trades combined over the next twelve months).

No we spend last year's cash on Gentile and Royce White trade.

If we offered him 8mil/yr contact, Knicks would've matched. Too bad we didn't tho. The Rockets, the Knicks, and Lin would all be better off if we didn't sign him and he stayed there.

Now no one rightfully wants to pay 15mil for him for one year. We'll have to give up our assets to unload him

Not possible. The first 2 years of the deal were the max allowable. Never could have been an 8.3 per year pay out and making the final year much cheaper would have just made NYCs decision easy to just keep him.

Lol only reason we have to pay is because we promised him 15 mil for this year. There would be better offers if he was only owed 8 million this year.

If not being worth 15 mill is Doo Doo, then a lot of point guards in this league are Doo Doo

Knicks would have been screwed. They would have had two crappy pgs in Lin and Felton. Would have been great for us though

That's not the only reason we have to pay. If he played well and showed he could be a solid starter teams would be willing to take him on as they could resign him. 15 mil obviously is a huge hurdle but his poor play is also a major issue

Bima, according to CBA, teams can make 25% advance payment on a player's salary between july 1 and october 1. If rox do that and then trade Lin, will the other team have to pay rox back the advance?

no one wants to pay novak $4M next year either but with a second round pick the jazz were willing to swallow the cost.

lin's $15M payment could be offset by adding $3M in cash. he would then only cost $12M. unlike novak, lin actually has some value when it comes to ticket sales, on court production, and tv deals in asia. on the open market he might make about $4-5M/yr. if you take that away from his $12M cost, the new owner would only be paying him an extra $7M more than he's worth.

if novak's $4M went for a second round pick, $7M could be moved for a first... and it may not have to be the pels pick either.

I'd like for this to happen with or without signing a max free agent. moving asik/lin to create $16M in cap space to spend on a bench is better than spending half of it on lin.
