Probably payback by Toronto GM for helping convince Lowry to stay. You can bet Patterson got in Kyle's ear when the Lin #7 flap blew up. "You sure you want to go back and get flipped again in a few years!".

Compared to some of the other contracts, this one seems reasonable.

6 million is not bad. Good contract for a role player.

The truth that players will nvr realize. If you get over paid, you're on a badly located team. (Toronto is/is not that; see: Colangelo, Jr.)

Since Colangelo is gone, you can take the C off the CRaptors now.

He's worth that price tag in this market, but I sure as hell don't want him. He's not moving the needle anywhere. Y'all love that guy, man.

What do you want them to do? Just go back to sucking? They will most likely be a top 4 seed next year. Realistically there might a handful of teams that have a real shot at a ring.If the rockets don't upgrade I don't really see them having a real shot at the ring. Do you want the rockets to just tank?

If your notion is if you don't have a shot at the ring, then you should tank the nba would suck since 90% of the NBA should try to tank.

    - $6M/year is a fair price.

Some team with the MLE or cap room in need of shooting at PF will likely make a run at Patterson after trying for the elite options (Love and Bosh?) and unrestricted FAs (Frye) first.

$6M/year is about the market for him and the length of the contract is right.

    - The Raptors are likely to have flexibility next season even with the new contracts for Lowry and Patterson. To the extent that any big time free agent wants to go to Toronto, they can find ways to fit their salary in. The bigger issue, as is with most FA chases, is to have the guy actually choosing your team over other options.

    - Toronto has tanked for many years now. They know well that lotto picks, even a #1 pick, is no guarantee for elite talent. It's not crazy for them to have keep a playoff team that has some young players together and hope to luck into another top guy who can take them a level higher, especially with the way the Eastern Conference has been of late.

    - One thing to look at is what Toronto will do with their bigs. For now, they have Valanciunas, Amir Johnson, Patterson, Hayes and Hansbrough. I wonder if one of them can be had for the right price.

Forgot they were the 3rd seed because of Lowry.... I did not think Lowry would have forsaken the Rockets

    Valanciunas is untouchable.
Amir Johsnson is just a hustle player.
    Pat Pat just signed.
Hayes is worthless as a player. Possible locker room value only.
Hansbrough is a train wreck. They would give him away free.

he would have but everybody's in a holding pattern until Carmelo and Lebron choose their teams. Its stupid how slow FA is . teams with tons of cap have signed basically no one

You the East is crappy when the Raptors and Wizards are looking like the best teams in the East right now.

I agree, he was in Denver, but was gone before the Nuggets got rid of George Karl. He's doing a good job up there. To me, the good luck really started when they got rid of Rudy Gay.

It started with dumping Bargnani for what ended up being draft picks. That was getting positive value out of a dead weight.

Ujiri is smarter than the average GM. Raptors are lucky to have him. Nuggets were idiots for letting him go and I've seen no explanation why they did.
