    @NYPOST_berman

"#Bulls reported move to sign Euro draft prospect Nikola Mirotic is clearest signal mgt. knows they can only net Melo in sign-and-trade."

    So Dallas out
    Chi town out
    Houston in
    Fakers in -max
    Knicks in -max

How much less is Houston's offer than the two max offers with no state income tax vs the high taxes of LA an NYC?

Four team trade only major parts moving
    NY gets
    Lin boozer and picks
    Minny gets
    Mirotic and picks
    Chicago gets
    Melo
    Houston gets
    Love
Idk just making stuff up it's going to be a long day.

That would require Boozer. Melo's max of $22 million is more than 150% greater than whatever Mirotic is going to be paid. And since a S&T'd player's salary cannot be aggregated with other salaries, they would still need to find at least $17 million in outgoing salaries.

Or if they amnesty Boozer and choose to operate below the cap, they can sign Mirotic (~$6 million) and send out $13 million in salary to receive $22 million back. That involves Taj Gibson, who was part of the Melo pitch.

I think the reports are accurate: it's a Boozer sign and trade or nothing else.

Bulls setting up meetings with Gasol, reportedly signing Mirotic (who who would have been the key piece in a sign and trade) seem like they're preparing for Melo to turn them down. Meanwhile, the Rockets have set NOTHING else up, and are apparently so laser focused on Melo that we aren't even entertaining the LeBron route amid reports that he might start looking around. Wonder if there's a reason the two supposed front runners for Melo are acting in seemingly opposite fashions...

Signing Mirotic, depending on the timing, also removes the option of trading him for Love this offseason.

If that's the case it looks good for us. As I've said before- the situation in LA right now is the same as it would be id he stayed in NY; but with less money. Why would he go to LA? To play with a washed up Kobe? Unless him and Love or him and Durant have a master plan to go there- I dont see it.

So its us and NY. And the whole "I'll get Gasol to play in NY for the min." Just reeks of a desperate attempt to do his due diligence and not completely piss off Knick fans for leaving. Lebron did the same in Cleveland. Right before he left he tried to convince, if memory serves me correct, Bosh to come to Cleveland the last few days before leavinf.

Dont forget- their pitch was before ours. Noah might be basing it off of Melo's (apparently poor) reaction to Chicago's pitch. I really think its between us and New York now. Leaning slightly to us. But I wouldnt be surprised if he stayed.

I don't think he'll consider a trade until February, but I have to hope!
