I'll laugh the first time Melo brings up the term "winning" if he goes back to New York.

Pretty sure they have more than that in cap room if they renounce some capholds. With Dirk I think they are at about 38m in salary committed. So well and truly enough to offer the max.

The Mavericks have $17M in cap room after the Dirk signing. However, they can clear more cap room by giving away Brandan Wright's $5M expiring contract. Wright is a solid rotation player on a good contract, and there will be no shortage of teams who would gladly take him.

Carmelo is 30 years old, but he has never been a free agent in his life. He is doing all these things just to experience the free agency thing at least once in his career. Being wooed by teams, being made to feel like a king, all the attention and publicity, etc. Because, by the time his next contract expires, he will be 35 yrs old and teams won't care about him then.

Deron Williams did the exact same thing in 2012.

Carmelo is staying in NYC. I can't imagine him leaving his hometown (Brooklyn) and transplanting his wife Lala to live in Texas for 4 years.

    Then he's content with mediocrity.

This morning I would have almost bet money that Melo was going to find a new team, and LBJ was pretty much a lock to be back with his team.

Based on everything I've seen since late this afternoon, I'm almost at a place where I would bet the exact opposite, now.

In the end, where he and his family want to be is all that matters. Life is short.

If his family is more important to him than nba championships, and if he's living in a city where he and his family love to be, doing what they love to do & making a lot of money doing it, then he's "content" with being great.

If I were him I'd also make sure Phil doesn't have any tricks up his sleeve that'll make the Knicks contenders anytime soon. Leaving all that money, your life, where you really want to be & have it bite u in the ass would really suck.

    Life is short?

You do know life is the longest thing you, I and Carmelo will ever experience/do right?

Then Melo will never have a chance to win a championship. That also applies to Lowry. As long as Lebron is staying in Miami (he ain't going anywhere), Chicago and Toronto will be irrelevant for the duration of their contracts.

@ESPNSteinLine: Story soon to hit online: ESPN sources say Rockets will turn attention to trying to pry Chris Bosh out of Miami IF Melo passes on Houston

The Knicks are probably like this: If you're willing to take a "pay cut" for all these other teams, why not give us the same discount? This is your hometown, you love it here & we'd be able to improve our roster faster.

Oh please, enough with this BS. He can hide behind his family, but his wife and kid didn't keep him from forcing his way out of Denver. If he stays with the Knicks, it is 100% because of the money and because NY is a more glamorous city.

PLEASE ROCKETS!!!! ANYONE BUT BOSH! :( Heck, I'd rather have us fill out our bench than have that over-hyped, over-rated T-REX has-been here...
