As Carmelo Anthony leans toward leaving New York, Chicago and Houston emerge as frontrunners

I can't blame the guy for maximizing his market value while he is still in his prime earning years.

NY is Anthony's home and it works for his family. If he can stay there AND he thinks Gasol can make them competitive enough, then so be it. Recruiting Gasol may not mean his decision is already made, but I think it is a good call for him to see if he can make NY a better destination for himself than what he has seen elsewhere.

Once he knows what is possible for NY, he can make a more informed decision.

 

Melo returning to the Knicks was always my prediction for where he would end up, but Carl Herrera is right, its not quite over yet for Houston or Chicago.

One glimmer of hope remaining is that the Knicks can only offer the MLE to Gasol and its been reported Gasol wants 10-12 million per. Perhaps Melo changes his mind about the Knicks when realizes Gasol won't sign with there... its a slim hope, but its something i guess.

 

If he wants to decided this weekend, then he would need to hear what Gasol wants to do directly from Gasol, not from the Knicks spin team. Even if Gasol is game, I don't think it'd make him a sure shot for NY. 2014 Gasol the missing superstar for a team to take it all the way? Yeah ok. I'm still taking Melo's word that he's interested in championships.

Guys, his heart has always been in NY. If he finds a good enough reason (Gasol + $$$), he'll stay. We just need to hope Gasol says no.

 

I really wish he would pick us or Chicago. If he goes to NY, both CHI and us are now bidding for Love.

I'm not a big Melo fan but those castigating him for not caring about winning IF he didn't join the Rockets seem to have forget that, Family, wife, kids and where you live are each equally if not more important factors.

The interview last week or two where he talked about his kids, having to move them from their schools and home etc was when I figured he was going back to NY.

 

It's also important to remember Woj reporting that LeBron was likely headed to Chicago in the 11th hour back in 2010. Things are fluid, let's not tar and feather Melo just yet.

 

I'm hoping he does stay in New York and Murray goes all in for Love.

 

I think he'll sign with NYK for the $35million extra.

I have to say I'm a little surprised... I really saw him going to Chicago. Not disappointed in him not coming here though -- was never sold on him as a good fit, and it's abundantly clear winning isn't his priority. We have enough guys who don't seem hungry to win as it is, so I don't see this as a loss.

I *am* deeply disappointed that Lowry is off the table, tho... I'd really hoped we'd "settle" for him once Melo was out of the equation.

 

I'd rather have Love. But I'll take whoever drops in our lap. Both would help, Love is just a better fit, and a SNT leaves us with other options.

I don't think Chicago is getting back into the Love sweepstakes. They are looking at Gasol,,Parsons and others.
