So the Knicks, who just missed the playoffs and didn't have a draft pick, would give up yet another first-round pick for a 34-year-old?

It's possible that Carmelo might love NYC so much to sign off on it, but it doesn't jive at all with his stated top priority of winning. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, for now.

A S&T means they have to stay below $81 million dollars, so Melo + Pau would require paycuts. They can get Pau by himself though.

Melo could always sign the same contract Dwight did. Sign for 4 years with a ETO after 2 and then re-sign for the max.

In the sense that it's only a possibility if he's high.

If Pau went to NY it would purely be as a favor to Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher.

If he wants a good shot at rings, he should head to OKC or SA.

If he wants the absolutely best chance at a ring AND a prolonged career for MLE money, he should go to SA.

if broussard is saying he is staying with the knicks, then the opposite is true. He is like a lighter 'pancakes'. chris 'blini' broussard.

"Lakers meeting with Melo initially later in the day, which is why Kobe thought he'd make it, but NYK meeting moved time up for LAL"

Even with chandler, Dallas might be even better than NY, specially they got a elite coach ;)

Is Melo really going to claim he wants rings, and then decide to join Rose, Kobe or Gasol? Come on. That's not winning.

I hope we told him at the pitch to look at the big picture. If the Miami Heat land an excellent 4th player, and beef up their bench this offseason... do you want to face that team with a stacked Rockets team, or Bulls/Lakers/Knicks?

We are the team that offers the most wins. We won 50+ last year. We'll win around 60 without him just given the youth in our team. With him, we can hit 60+ in the West. Now you tell me, is a team that can hit 65 wins in the West (and can continue to do so for years) really comparable to any of the other suitors?

If it's about the safest path to multiple rings within the window of his next contract, that's us. I've tried to look at it from the perspective of other teams, but Rose and Kobe are just RISKY as hell, and unlikely to be fully healthy for four years. Nowitzki is not going to last that long and Tyson Chandler certainly isn't.

Dwight Howard and James Harden will be among the best players at their position for the next 4 years and have never shown signs of being injury prone. They both attended the meeting - a clear signal that they are hungry for more wins, even if it means less shots for them.

This is the one. Going to the Bulls makes Lebron say: "Damn, another Indiana to swat away." Going to the Lakers won't bring a ring for one year, and will be without Kobe the last year or two, and no coach right now. Dallas, will not go from a 9th seed to a championship contender when their second best backcourt player is a 36 year old Vince Carter.

This is the choice that makes them go...
