This is only step one for them. They still have to clear more salary I believe.

(Butler? Dunleavy? Gibson(?) but they want to keep him.)

This amnesty alone doesn't give him the full max (or anything close).

Have to admit, the timing of the Lowry signing in conjunction with the Boozer amnesty is disconcerting. But I also doubt Melo has made up his mind before meeting with the Lakers.

Trying not to jump to conclusions. Chicago needed to create cap room anyway.

This news and the Melo news is actually good for the Rockets. Now they can start making moves that are less playstation and more realistic in terms of fit and finances. Never wanted Melo and Lowry would be nice but he would not drastically improve Rockets' needs, adding more D to starting 5. Signing Lowry is status quo because Bev is a terrific defender.

Rockets need to act quickly and S&T for Love and sign another young defensive/offensive weapon in the Lowry range.

That would be Lance Stephenson. Love, Stephenson & Parsons would be a fantastic offseason for the Rockets.

This. Boozer was gone no matter what. This is just a formality. Melo-to-Chicago is still a long, long-shot.

Boozer being amnestied is good news... that means the Bulls can't offer more than $16MM unless they trade off Taj as well. The (small) risk was that they could trade Boozer + assets to the Knicks for a S&T'd Melo.

We don't get Love without giving up Parsons.

The Bulls letting Boozer go doesn't guarantee them Melo.

This hurts IF the Rockets pitched to Melo the idea of a big 5 including Lowry (which the big 5 idea was reported today). I would have thought Lowry would have accepted a 5 year deal though. He might have a player option but if he opts out he should have just gone to a team that gives him a realistic chance of winning a ring now.

I am actually relieved that pieces are starting to move.

If we strike out on all of the big FAs but are able to bolster the bench and maintain flexibility, I will be happy. Expectations games suck...

Guys..remember..Priority order was Lebron>> Melo>>Love>>Lowry. If Lowry is gone than means..1 or maybe 2 of the above is a done deal.

Melo is not out of play. The bulls are just making their long expected cap clearing move. The Rockets can offer him more money and a better team. It's between the knicks and the rockets for melo and I think houston wins out.

    2. Bosh
    3. Ariza

Hmmm... possible that Morey called up Lowry and said sorry buddy but we're going in x direction instead.

Maybe after Dallas Melo let folks know it's NY/Houston which would explain the Boozer amnesty and the Lowry signing happening seemingly together.

I don't know but it seems like something caused those two events to happen like they did.

I'm confused about one thing..... If CHI knew they were not going to get Melo, wouldn't they just keep Boozer?
