1% is nothing. I'm 1%, and so are many of my friends. We still work our asses off and probably will for decades. Melo will have true generational wealth. I hate to break it to you, but it takes a special type of moron to think that turning down $60million is ever a good idea. That's a ****load of money, so Morey needs to close that gap, otherwise Melo is a loser for turning down that money.

Actually, it came out publicly after "the decision" that the Knicks organization was one of the least impressive suitors for Bron's "talents". Apparently they were very disappointing. It's public knowledge that he thinks they're a bad organization.

Maybe the Zen Master changes things, but I wouldn't bet on it. It's not like he's the coach.

He is clearly a Knicks fan. Probably made an account when Lin came. No Houston fan would ever say "MSG is the best place to play in."

Anyway, the money issue is overstated. According to Forbes, A Knicks max contract would carry roughly $2mil more state taxes than a Rockets max contract. Which pretty much cancels out the fact that the Rockets can't pay the uber-max. In addition the 1 extra year is also pointless. The Rockets can give Melo an extension 1 year into his new Rockets contract. Basically, unless Melo has a career-ending injury in year 1 of his Rockets contract, he can get basically the same NY deal of 5 years.

As for endorsement money, Melo makes 25% less than Dwyane Wade despite being in NY. Another fact, Wade represent Li Ning, the top Chinese shoe brand, and the country in which the Rockets have far more reach than NY(Chinese fans basically follow Rockets/Lakers/Heat more or less). Yeah, Melo's not hurting for money in Houston. Quite frankly, neither was Dwight when he came here. It's only the national media and their narrative driven storylines that made it look like he gave up like $30mil.

Well you may not realize it, but there are things that money can't buy.....like an NBA championship or two. No matter what he does, he'll be making north of 18 mil a year. 18 mil a year plus a legitimate shot at multiple championships is a lot better than extra cash for the tax man to take away.

I think you missed the point of his post.

First of all there was a Forbes article posted today that just like with Dwight in LA, Melo would earn MORE money playing in Houston because of the taxes. So yes he would be a loser financially going back to NY.

Second of all Melo is already a loser prefessionally in that he couldn't even drag the Knicks to the playoffs IN THE EAST.

Thirdly the Knicks current roster is even worse than last years since they traded away Chandler. So it's very very likely that Melo would again be on a losing non playoff team and he's getting older his window is short.

So yes going back to the Knicks would make him a loser in every way possible. I'm sure that "energy" in MSG must be really rocking to go back to that dumpster fire.

I agree that the KNicks were bad, and i thought James Dolan could never win on his own and were in for many disappointments. But they have made it to at least the second round, which the Rockets haven't accomplished for awhile. They also have Phil Jackson now which changes their image along with taking Dolan out the picture when it comes to management for the time being.

Money can buy you things like living in Brooklyn and Manhattan, instead of Houston. Try being rich in Manhattan, and then tell me that you'd rather live in Houston.

This will blow your mind, but he can live in Brooklyn or Manhattan and play in Houston. Do you really think all the Rockets live in Houston?

We should have all learned from the Dwight situation last year. The media and 99% of twitter is full of ****. Nobody knows where he is going except maybe Carmelo himself. Broussard said Dwight was 50/50 like an hour before he chose us and what was probably days after he had actually decided it.

I won't believe anything until it's done but I'll still refresh this page every ten minutes, lol.

Things that would give Chicago problems with signing Carmelo:

    1. Gets less $ than other teams can give him.
    2. Inability to do sign and trade with Knicks.
    3. Rose's health concerns.
    4. Overall roster is good, but certainly no better than Houston.
    5. Chicago weather.
    6. State Income tax.
    7. Doesn't like to commit to Thibodeau's defense minded system.

Stein clearly doesn't think about these things which indicates to me either 1) He's in the tank for Melo to go to Chicago or stay in NY or 2) he's not very bright. I'm not sure which.

In 2009, the top 1% of wage earners in America earned 343,000 a year or more.

Carmelo, who will be making somewhere from 17-20+million a year is obviously way above that. But to say that making 343k a year is nothing is pretty foolish

NYC, NBA hubby, and connections. That's how you succeed in life. It sure isn't her talent.

If it's just about city life, of course you go with New York.

We're hoping it isn't just about that.

Haha! I didn't want to live in the Woodlands, then I found a really great job here and now I do. I guess I'm the same, but it's not that bad.

I think it's about less $, Rose's health, and the fact that they can't pay him the money he deserves without gutting the roster and undermining his chances to win. I just can't see it.

The weather? As if Houston's foul, oppressive humidity is any more of a selling point.
