As Carmelo Anthony leans toward leaving New York, Chicago and Houston emerge as frontrunners

I know this is literally not a story at all....

But earlier today, my girlfriend was shopping around the River Oaks area, and said she saw Dwight Howard on the side of the road outside of Americas, where Carmelo was supposedly staying. She sent me this photo.

I know, old news- everyone knew that already, but I thought I would share anyway.

The point is that they over performed in the playoffs and we under performed. We still have more talent and potential than them

Well of course they have a better coach than we do, but my point is that it doesn't matter, they don't have the team to do anything and it's not like they have a Pop level coach.

Except for Ellis, they are all waning talents.

 

All things lead back to this: Monta have it all.

Besides that, an aging Dirk means the window is pretty small for the Mavs. Can't imagine they have a serious chance. They have to be in last place in the Melo sweepstakes.

 

Just like the Spurs are all up there in age to huh?

 

Dirk- old player, if he is lucky he will be good enough to compete for 2-3 more years as the primary player on their team.
Chandler- also old and has had to battle a lot of injuries.
Carter- also old, and is currently a free agent.
Devin Harris- also currently a free agent, and had a pretty disappointing season last year after coming off surgery.
Diaw- Diaw? as in Boris? the guy that just won the Finals with the Spurs?
Marion- another free agent, and another older player.

Ellis, admittedly, had a better year last year than I was expecting. I still don't think he would be enough of a draw for any star player to go there.


It seems like the Mavs are desperately trying to find players to fit around Dirk during his twilight years as an elite player. And it seems like, after striking out on players like Deron Williams and Dwight, they have tried to find older veteran players on short term deals. Which is fine, but they have just been treading water more than actually improving IMO, and are currently stuck in the middle of the pack of the Western Conference.


Personally, I don't see any threat of Melo signing there at all. Unless, of course, Mark Cuban makes another really cool cartoon video for him. That seemed to work really well last year.
