Ya. I guess I need to correct that "asset-minded" attitude I have developed.

That isn't true. I mean you can talk to him on a friendly level, but McHale can't go talk to a player under contract to another team about joining his team. Definitely tampering.

Won't be the first time the Rockets have done something like that either

Coaches can't talk to players? Are players allowed to talk to other players?

He's definitely an interesting cat. The sockless loafers/dress shoes, the sun glasses, the haircut, the smile, the accent...

    He kills me.

No, the Rockets would simply need to be under the tax level after the specific trade. They wouldn't be over the tax level until they re-sign Parsons.

Players can do whatever they want because the NBA has no way to enforce tampering rules against a player.

But no, a coach can't talk to a player on another team about leaving that team to come join his. That is tampering. If they get caught they get in trouble. When the league can prove it the penalties are pretty severe.

They get a young promising PF that's 22, young promising backup PG that's 23, and 3 players on non guaranteed deals that if they dont like can simply waive AS opposed to just letting Melo leave and get nothing in return?

Also McHale wasn't at the meeting at Americas by all accounts. I wonder if Love/Lowry/Melo/Dwight/ Harden is possible if we do what BIMA said + do a SNT with our bird rights and have equal salary outbound as going in. I highly doubt this is possible but oh boy if it is.
