God Bless Timmy for keeping us in the game. What an unreal performance, he totally deserved to escape with a CS and a win... too bad Wondo couldn't finish on that one attempt. This game was tough to watch for those who wanted the US to take a step forward with style of play in this World Cup cycle and under the direction of Jürgen. We were never settled when we had possession and were so quick to give it away with unsure touches and/or passes. Still a long way to go for the US, but we can be proud of our effort in the Group Stage of this WC. The performance today left a lot to be desired (sans Howard), and I hope they can shore up some of those problem areas over the next four years to make a deeper run in Russia. In essence, we played without 3 of our best players: Altiodre, Donovan, and the Bradley we're used to seeing. Would've been good to see what this team with a healthy Jozy could've done, but those are the breaks. The US didn't do jack with the set pieces they did have today. Zusi, Bradley, and Bedoya needed to do better. We go forward from here.
Didn't catch the first half so can only comment on the second half and extra time. I think this game is on Klinsman, he came out way too defensive. Belgium could get to the US's box anytime they really wanted. It was amazing the amount of space that was conceded to Belgium, you simply can't not give that much space to talented players. That's the reason Belgiuim had sooooooo many shots on goal. Not to burst anybody's bubbles or anything but what young promises are there? And I mean truly great young players. I think the 02 squad had far better promises... (Donovan, Beasley, Mastroeni, O'brien, Cherundulo).
Yedlin, Johnson, Green, Brooks, Gonzalez, Johannsson, Besler, and Mix Altidore is only 24 and Bradley should have another run --- at least his last.
None of those player seem truly great like great class, granted much of them have a long way ahead of them but I still felt better after 02 world cup.
too bad they lost, I was rooting for the US. I think green is going to be the next star, he has soo much potential. I still think Donovan could've helped the team. Do you think Klinsmann stays for the next world cup?
ahh... that's too bad. you're usually so vocal like on sunday when you sure couldn't wait to open your mouth with these insightful posts below. let me know when you're ready, i'm interested to get your thoughts on the wonderful attacking soccer the usa displayed throughout this tournament.
nah... i'm just trying to have a nice convo with leroy who's very hurt right now. i respect that, he needs to heal. he'll talk when he's ready.
Can't force people to put soccer as their number one priority in the US. Bet there are tons of potentially talented phenoms that would excel in soccer yet choose football, basketball, or even baseball instead.
This is the ultimate truth that seems to be ingore after every WC. Funny because this squad wasn't even that good. They've had better talent in other WCs
yes. this. our best athletes don't even CONSIDER soccer. Just look at us having to go scrape Europe for half American players... That wouldn't happen in baseball/football/basketball (ok Hakeem exception aside, lol)
Ughh no. I don't want those fans. Those fans are there just to be seen, and have a good party time. kinda like half of the Texans tailgaters. They'll be back in four years looking for a good time to drink pints of beer and be proud to be Americans and all that ****. Give me real fans any day of the week. Those numbers I don't mind growing
Here we go with the best athletes bull**** again. Happens every cycle. Soccer skills, not athletes, people.
