I really don't understand why we declined his option. Am I missing something?

I really disliked this move by Morey. Parsons was obviously understandable, but I don't see any reason to have declined Daniels' option.

The teams weakness is 3pt shooting which is his strength. RESIGN HIM MOREY

Better to pay him off 1/12 of a season than next year after a full season. When you consider that the contract will be over 4 years likely

This also protects Chandler Parsons. With Parsons as a RFA teams can't demand to have him as part of a trade package.

I'm guessing Morey might match offers for Daniels and try to force a sign and trade to get a pick back. Maybe he knows something we don't?

Look folks. You guys are freaking out about nothing. One of two things will happen.

    1. The Rockets sign Melo(or another big name FA) using the extra capspace. In which case, if he leaves he leaves. Daniels should not be in the way of getting Melo or Bosh or Lowry or whoever. He just shouldn't.

    2. The Rockets strike out on FA and the Rockets match his offer. He returns. Or he's grossly overpaid elsewhere and the Rockets look for someone else in their DLeague system.

Daniels isn't the type of player you hang on to even if it hurts your chances of landing a star.

Unrestricted next year. Has a good season with next years cap and he's gone.

Morey's trying to pin him long term for cheap.

That or they've got a deal lined up for someone more proven than just a few games.

He proved himself. He's only going to improve and he's reliable in clutch situations. Unless Korver or Dunleavy are coming, I'm keeping Troy.

This move didn't gain us cap space, though. It cost us $200k in cap space. That is why this doesn't make any sense at all. They could have just released him from his non-guaranteed deal or traded him to get the $300k in cap space if needed for a superstar. Best case scenario was/is signing him to a guaranteed vet minimum extension, but that is very unlikely.

He would be restricted next year if they picked up the option.

    Not to save any money...

Either way, the point I made is that, they want to sign for cheap before he cost much more.

That ship may have already sailed. I've yet to hear a legitimate explanation as to why we are doing this.

    1. There is a good chance you can lock him up long term for cheap this year. Yes, teams will probably offer him some decent deals from his playoff run but Im sure nowhere near the deals which would be offered to him next season.

    2. If you wait until next year.. after he has a breakout season.. while he may be a RFA.. he will command allott more money (especially after we win a championship).

Waste a small 200k cap this year, lock him up on the cheap long term and save yourself millions...Morey must be very confident that this kid is going to breakout..

He's not as good as Melo, Lebron, or Lowry. If need be, the Rockets can retract qualifying offer to save about 300K in cap space for a year. Rockets may need a bunch of little moves to create cap space.
