Wow what an awful signing. SVG was brought in to clean things up but is just piling more garbage on top of garbage.
By the way, this is exactly why waiting until the "second wave" of free agency for role players is so smart. Remember when Morey was able to sign Delfino for dirt cheap? The market explodes at the beginning with desperate dumb teams trying to get better in the short term.
D'antonio's offense is the only reason he was a 14.7 PER. He'll be awful next year I bet and the Pistons have another bad contract.
I disagree. I like this signing. When he averages 20 ppg, you'll see why. I'll donate to the tip jar. I've been a fan of his for awhile because of his potential. He's got that hidden "takeover" ability that only gets to be displayed when he's given permission. Jodie Meeks is severely underrated. If you watched him in Philly, you would know what he's capable of. He took a HUGE paycut to come to LA because he wanted to play with KOBE. I've said it before, in terms of form, Meeks has one of the nicest shots in the game. Beautiful release with the elbow.
I swear, do Meeks, Gordon, Villanueva all share the same agency? "Let's introduce our subpar clients to the Pistons front office, and bam, automatic commission check."
I am not trying to discount Jodie's scoring ability (didnt he have nearly 50 in that game against OKC this year?) but it seems a LOT for a guy who sort of bounced around from team to team. He had a chance last season to be able to get 20ppg with all those guys out for the Lakers and still managed only around 14ppg. I cant see how he would average 20ppg when he has Brandon Jennings, Josh Smith, Drummond and Monroe needing shots - this is not counting Stuckey (if he is still there or not) and their lotto pick from last year Caldwell-Pope I do think Meeks would have been a great player off the bench for a lot of teams but at 6.3 per - can probably find someone else to give you similar production/abilities for less
I cannot agree with ANY of your points. I doubt anyone would take a huge pay cut to play with an aging Kobe, especially not a young player who hasn't been paid much yet. Yes, he is a great shooter, but he offers NOTHING ELSE as a player, not yet any way. He has below-average athleticism for his size too, so any future improvements will be gradual rather than giant leaps. And lastly, his shooting form is far from ideal. His release is pretty slow, and he has a low release point. As a UK alum, I am glad to see a fellow Wildcat getting paid, but Pistons overpaid him about $5 million.
This is probably the game he got paid on <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZLDPjMczb2E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Turns out SVG is no smarter than Dumars. He really loves 3-point shooters. I also think the OKC game helped him get this.
Can we please bring Detroit to the Western Conference? We need a team with dumb management to offset San Antonio and OKC.
They are also pursuing Isaiah Thomas according to Alex Kennedy. They have an over paid Brandon Jennings so I'm guessing they will be moving him soon
