This points to the fact that this was a contingency plan with Love involved. Push come to shove, I think Uriji would do a SNT rather than losing Lowry for nothing. I believe we can get Lowry signed then go after Love even though it would be a lot harder.

Pretty incredible they were able to scrounge that much space but still not enough to make the changes necessary.

 

12 mil might get you Gortat, but not Lowry. Would Gortat and minimum contracts really make the Heat a legit contender to beat the top teams in the West?

 

What if Broussard meant that the Rockets only wanted to acquire Lpwry via SnT to preserve the offseason money for other FAs?

With that being said, why would Houston want to do that with Lowry? He's probably the more obtainable FA being signed outright. The Melos of free agency are higher max guys that will probably be acquired via SnT. Add Kevin Love to that scenario as well.
