that would only give them $10M in space and is contradictory to the reports of LeBron wanting a full max deal...anyways, that is only enough for 1-2 contributing players...

Cap is $63 mil. They have about $3 mil in cap hits right now, plus add $45 in my scenario. That gives them $15 mil to play around with to at least another piece or two before filling out the roster, and then can go over the cap to re-sign some of their free agents.

"Chris Bosh 5 year deal will return to Heat, per source. Dwyane Wade will re-sign for 4 years in Miami."

"Chris Bosh just left on a 22-day vacation ... after opting out."

"LeBron James wants short term (1-2 year deal) at max money contract w Heat, source close to negotiation tells me."

"LeBron will give zero discount to Heat. Will be max money with short duration (1-2 years)."

"Kyle Lowry free agency will be committed by tomorrow. Source says Toronto is leader."

I don't know who this guy is, but if Lebron really signs a 2 year deal for the max with the intent to do all this again in 2 years...Good Grief.

Haha I just posted this in the Melo thread before that tweet

Best case situation is Melo stays with NY, the big 3 remain in Miami with Lebron having a longer contract to where he can't opt out at the same time Melo can so they don't team up in NY anytime soon. Love comes to Houston and LA Clippers strikeout without any major upgrades. That's my two cents.

Makes sense to me. Lebron values flexibility and knows the money will be there regardless (barring injury). Remember, he is all about building a "brand" and a brand needs titles. Lots of them.

I don't understand how the Heat get away with this.

Players taking severe pay cuts in order to build super teams? Wade opting out of 40 million? Umm, ok.

Again, no idea who this guy is, but let's say it's legit.

The big 3 then are likely to count for about $40 to $45 million. Another $2 for Cole and $3 for Haslem and let's say they are $50 to $52 million after capholds and everything.

Miami will probably be able to do $10 million or so in free agent deals.

Expect this to be a big issue with small market owners in the next CBA. This is downright circumvention of the salary cap, even if it isn't under the legal terms of the CBA.

think about it, if wade, bosh and other borderline stars take significant discount in order for lebron to stay and they DO NOT won the championship next year... How bad would it hurt lebron's brand!

Once the full details of the contracts come out we will see if anybody is really taking that huge of a paycut.

Canzono is a Portland beat writer. I live in Portland, so I read and hear a lot of his stuff. He's pretty knowledgable..

I'm certain Haslem is not getting $3mil. He's a lifelong Heat and will certainly get some compensation later on in other ways. But do include Napier's $1mil though. So overall the numbers should be slightly higher.

Personally I could care less. Perhaps I'm underestimating this team, or who they can sign. But I'm of the opinion that even if they add Lowry, the best UFA out there besides Melo, they're still not championship caliber.

I have no problem with players doing this... it shows how much these guys just want to win... If you were a Heat fan... wouldn't you be ecstatic?

Would Harden and Howard ever do this? No.

These salaries show how much these guys want to win.....

I agree it shows that, but if you are Cleveland or Milwaukee you have a major problem with this. You can't compete in a league where superstars are going to play for less to be in a glamor city with their friends and win.

I'm not going to cry for them because I couldn't give two poops about Milwaukee or Cleveland, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be an issue in the next CBA.

The basic idea is going to be that the salary cap creates a situation where 95% of the league can only have one star at best because they'll have to pay them $15 to $22 million a year, but a select few cities can have four stars because they will play for less there. It nukes the entire compensation/salary cap system.

A salary cap is only effective is players are actively seeking market value.

Purely a guess, but when all is said and done, I predict we end up with Lowry and Hawes.

    Lowry
    Harden
    Parsons
    Hawes
    Howard

It's not flashy, but fills the two biggest needs in the lineup.
