What would our cap look like after this... i feel like we would need to find a backup center and PF.. also maybe an SF
You'd have no cap room and would be pretty close to luxury tax territory. You'd have vet minimum deals and the BAE (2 million aprox) to add additional players. They'd probably bring back Garcia on a vet min deal, but they'd need to find a way to get some backup bigs on minimum deals for sure.
Great idea to throw all the random thread its to a single collective one⦠Anyways, I posted this in another thread, but this would be a more appropriate place to post it. For the No-superstar point of view..also I wanted to see if this would be possible. Here are my numbers... "If the Rockets slashed all non-guaranteed salary (other than for those in the 2014 Playoffs rotation), their total salary commitments would still be around $61.99 million" Minus 1.3mill Garcia, 8.32 Asik, 8.32 lin, 1.5 Moti, and if we trade Cannan and Covington 1.6 mill Thats leaves us with ~40 Mill of cap space used. With the projected Cap Space of 63.2mill, thats gives us ~23 mill. Reason being it means we can add depth and build a balanced attack offensively and defensively. Signing Lowry would max take ~4yr, 55 mill. With 23 mill available in cap room that would still leave us with 9.25 mill. We could possibly bring in guys like Marion 4mill/yr and Gasol 5mill/yr I would think second tier guys like Avery Bradley or Deng would require more than that, only way possible would be if we can get Lowry at a cheaper price. With the MLE we could bring in Hawes. solidifying our backup C And with the Vet min we could bring in Sefalosha. Then we match Parsons and daniels. Lowry/Bev/johnson Harden/sefalosha/Daniels/johnson Parsons/Marion Gasol/Jones Howard/Hawes The big difference in this squad is the defense available in the bench. We would have quality depth Offensively and defensively. I think this beats putting in a guy like Melo and then surrounding the big 3 with scrubs, as we saw in the finals..a balanced attack is arguably better than a building a big 3. I was under the impression we could get Pau for a 5-6 mill/yr contract and Marion with a 4-5 mill/yr contract. Pau and Marion would be big pieces on a contender...i think with that price and added value of playing for a well balanced contender, we could be in contention for that lineup. I would say we would be arguably the most well balanced team in the nba. Youth with veterans Defense with offense starters and bench Small and Big lineup offering a multitude of attacks we can use to throw to matchup (and mismatch) other teams.
If you use cap room you don't get the MLE, sorry. You get the room exception only. So if you used cap room to sign Lowry, Gasol and Marion, you'd have the ability to use the room exception of ~2 million to add any other pieces. Not that this scenario is all that bad. All three of those guys make the Rockets better. Other problem is that you aren't getting Sefalosha for the minimum and you probably couldn't get Hawes for the MLE even if you had it.
I have always been a harsh critic of She-Mac and she gave up. Lowry was a lot younger and realized that he made a mistake in the way he behaved. That counts for something, it means he is growing up. Remember, they almost traded Akeem when he was pouting.
Btw...i too would love KLow back...but getting Lowry will relegate Beverly back to the bench or possible a trade bait... Later on this season, the Rockets could put together a nice trade package of Parsons, TJones and Beverly for their coveted PF...who knows...so far the Rockets are really hedging that Melo or Lowry come to Houston
It would be pretty crazy. 21.4 - Howard 15.7 - Love 14.7 - Harden 12.0 - Lowry (guess) 11.0 - Parsons (guess) 74.8 million in just those 5. When you add in the others, 0.8 - Beverley 0.8 - Johnson 1.1 - Vet Min 1.1 - Vet Min 1.1 - Vet Min 1.1 - Vet Min 1.1 - Vet Min $81.9 million The projected luxury tax level is at $77 million for this year, and $81 million next year. So in 2014, the Rockets would be 4.9 over. 4.9*1.5 tax rate = $7.35 million in tax for 2014/2015. Because the rockets have yet to be a luxury tax team, they would not have to worry about the repeater rate until the 2017/2018....at which point the luxury tax line could be so high that it wouldn't even matter. So to field a team of Lowry/Harden/Parsons/Love/Howard over the next 3 years, the luxury tax to Les would be a total of around $22 million.
Would it really be that bad to have Beverley come off the bench, and can Lowry not play off the ball? Keep in mind that in 2009/10, the Rockets best offensive lineups were when Lowry and Brooks played in the back court together along with Landry, Budinger, etc. Lowry is also a much better fit next to Harden as a shooter. Much quicker release, and is a threat to do other things off the ball as well. On the ball, he's a much better creator than Bev, & still has some nastiness on defense. We all love Beverley for what he brings, but lets not get carried away with forgetting what role he really should be in.... which isn't necessarily starting caliber. Still... I think keeping Beverley will still be crucial to this team despite if he's starting or coming off the bench.
I immediately noticed that both Bob Dylan and Jessica Beil are from Minnesota, Blood In Blood Out is about three dudes in Chicago, and the Nizkor Project is a Holocaust remembrance group started in Canada.
It looks to me like Morey is getting greedy and could be holding out for Lowry + Love. He has cleared just enough cap space to give Lowry a competitive offer while still having the requisite pieces to trade for Kevin Love. Its unclear exactly how much money we have but it appears to be in the 9-12 range. With the cap room, Morey could sign Lowry and then use the Lin contract as the salary filler to trade for Kevin Love with all of our assets intact. Parsons is likely gone, but Lowry/Harden/Love/Howard is the best core in the league.
Woj is probably busy gathering reliable information. He doesn't spam the internet with every false rumor he can. He's not an attention w****.

Man... I know the narrative is that Sefalosha has one bad year last year, but the reality is that he's only had really two good years as a 3 point shooter + 1 other year where he shot poorly from 3 but was really good everywhere else. So for 202 total games of 3 years he's been a valuable offensive player. The other 279 games he's been a .420 ish shooter from the floor and a .320 ish shooter from 3. If it's between real money for Thabo or vets minimum for Garcia, I'll keep Garcia.
As good as Lowe is... he knows that Parsons can't even sign an offer sheet until next week, right? Ideally our big plans will shake out before then.
