This is why JLin is valuable to the Rockets. The only reason.

I could be wrong but from what I have heard about merchandising and all that Lin himself probably has little effect on the Rockets profits. It's not nothing but it's not like him being here doubled the profits all on his own.

As I said in the other thread on this very topic, OKC is making a huge profit, yet can't afford James Harden? I hope Durant is paying attention.

And the fact the Rockets are paying him a contract to play is the only reason why Lin wants to be in Houston...the only reason (that and the Knicks offered him nothing despite his great success on the court). Its obvious Lin wanted to stay in NY, but for whatever inexplicable reason the Knicks management did not want him back (maybe they don't like asians).

In other words td not worth to buy a team. Paying a billion to make 40 million? Not a good deal

If you buy a team, make 40 million a year for a decade and then sell it for much more than you buy it, it most certainly is worth it.

Not to mention most guys enjoy owning a team.

Ummm you must not invest. That's terrific ROI and besides ppl don't buy teams to make a profit necessarily. It more about living out their dream or gaining celebrity.

Don't forget that the franchises also have been going up like $50 to $100 million or more per year. Nice gig if you can get it.

Then you have fans feeling like OKC has to worry abut paying Harden an extra million or two more per year. Weird.

This is why I've never questioned Les' willingness to spend. The Rockets are very profitable. And despite not being over the tax, mainly due to us not having contending teams, Les has spent in a lot of small ways. Using money to buy picks, Amnestying Scola who still had several years on his contract. Taking on Jefferies contract from the Knicks for picks despite the Rockets getting into luxury tax.

If the Rockets get Melo or Love, we will spend into the tax for this upcoming run.

So for the same reason, maybe Rockets should buy a 60th pick and pick Chinese center Li Muhao last week. He will take the place of Jeremy in helping making profit next season.

Lakers had their worst season in franchise and still made 100 million in profit. God damn.

Rockets: 3rd most profitable team in the NBA

<BR>Saw this little nugget buried in a Grantland story about the JKidd/Nets debacle:

In other words, here are the 5 most profitable teams in the league:

    1. Lakers ($100.1 million)
    2. Bulls ($61 million)
    3. Rockets ($40.7 million)
    4. Celtics ($33.1 million)
    5. Thunder ($29 million)

    Points/questions:

    • It's easy to see why Les likes Morey.
    • It's likewise easy to see why Les doesn't mind giving DM money to spend.
    • We're in a good position in case we have to pay a little luxury tax money.
    • I wonder how much of that profit is due to JLin.

Could've sworn I've seen statements by Morey in the last couple of years saying that Les wasn't against going into the LT, as long as it wasn't just wasteful spending.

I don't have a source for that, though. Anyone?

Yea, I've read that statement multiple times as well, but saying you will and actually delivering are two different things.
