This France-Nigeria game has been boring as hell so far. I've actually gotten quite a bit of work done since it's been on, and I really can't say that about any of the other matches so far.

You knew it was coming with the pressure France was applying in the last 10 minutes or so.

That Nigerian GK has had some good saves this match but mainly because they were hit straight at him.

On those crosses, though, he's poorly misjudging them. That cross on the goal should've been punched out.

His fundamentals are terrible but he has great reflexes.

Always amuses me when its an own goal but the opposing player celebrates like the goal was a result of his telekinetic power.

    David Luiz....now Griezmann.

I hate Löw. He needs to go. We have no chance to win anything with him at the helm. I'll throw up if we have another semifinal exit and he sells it as a success. We have been wasting a golden generation with this dumbass.

2 to 1 odds for Belgium beating US with a colleague at work. Good deal?

50 for me if Belgium win and 100 for him if US win.

Pretty high standards considering advancing beyond the semis would require victories over France and then Brazil. (assuming the Algeria game is a clear win)

Has CONCACAF earned a 4th guaranteed spot for 2018 qualifying? 3 out of the 4 teams made it to the knockout stages. 0/4 teams from AFC made it through and all were generally bad in the first round. They had an opportunity at a 5th had Jordan been able to beat Uruguay in a playoff. The drop off from the top 4 in the AFC is pretty big (Iran, Australia, Japan, S. Korea). Having their 4th place team in a playoff would at least be a more competitive game than with the Oceania winner (New Zealand).

That said, what is the point of continuing to have Oceania? Only 11 teams participated in qualifying for 2014. Why not merge them with AFC?

His fundamentals aren't fantastic but they aren't bad either and definitely not terrible. Not sure how one becomes the top GK in Ligue 1 with terrible fundamentals. Either way, if his fundamentals were as great as his reflexes he would be an even better GK than he already is.

Because there are people living in Ocenia that at least know they have a small chance.

I can recall New Zealand making two WC appearances

We talked about this in the other thread but shouldn't some blame go to Lahm? For refusing to play Left back when the whole Footballing world knows he's a better left back than Howedes. He's one of the best fullbacks in the world at both Left and Right yet he said he doesn't want to play LB. If he told Low he'd play LB you'd think Low would pencil him in to start at the position right?

Are you kidding me? All both sides did was attack the whole time - great game. In fact, Greece attacked in all of it's games, including the Colombia one where the were getting shellacked. Look at the stats. They just don't have any scorer worth a crap.

By the way, while I get wanting Costa Rica to beat Holland to make our road easier if we win tomorrow, I find it funny how folks forget how much Costa Rica HATES the USMNT. Look up the history and the aftermath of the Snowclasico.

This CONCACAF cheerleading is idiotically one sided - none of the other CONCACAF root for us just b/c we are in the same confederation. In fact almost all wish we would have been eliminated long, long ago.
