Why would Minnesota trade Kevin Love for Parsons, Lin, and a late first round pick?

Parsons is over his head if he considers only going to a big market. He vastly overrates his own ability and the sooner he realizes this the better. 100% the best SF in the Portland series and then gets his clock cleaned by Batum. Yeah....

I don't think the Rockets would have let him become a RFA if they had any intention of getting rid of Parsons or if they had any doubts he was going to make every effort to stay with the team.

Odds are he won't leave unless someone offers him an insanely over valued contract. He could be sign and traded, but it certainly can't be Parson's preference unless the money difference is huge. I'm sure he didn't recruit Dwight with the thought that there is a good chance he would be leaving. Also it would have to happen before he signs an offer sheet, or sign and trade is no longer an option for the Rockets. So the KLove deal has to be in place and Parsons has to know about it before he starts fielding offers that he might accept, or risk him signing one.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>No. RT <a href="https://twitter.com/megastahr">@megastahr</a> if parsons signs offer sheet with another team can rockets still match and SNT him to wolves in a deal for love?</p>&mdash; Larry Coon (@LarryCoon) <a href="https://twitter.com/LarryCoon/statuses/483272274552705024">June 29, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

There is no need to say you are not trading Parsons to deflate his RFA value if you plan on using him in a trade that has to be agreed on before he signs any offers.

<blockquoteclass="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Rockets intend to keep both Parsons and Daniels, regardless of what else happens in free agency, source said. Will cite both in pitches.</p>&mdash; Jonathan Feigen(@Jonathan_Feigen) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jonathan_Feigen/statuses/483598968836739073">June 30, 2014</a></blockquote> <script asyncsrc="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Oh, come now. You're being naïve..and a little skittish.

If the Rockets deal for Love, they already know that he's signing on the dotted line. The market for teams that meet the criteria here is so narrow....and we're one of the few.

I didn't say he'd do it. But it is how such a scenario can play out.

Well technically his option is an offer sheet that the Rockets simply decline to match, but that seems unlikely.

First of all, people need to remember that good teams rarely target RFA because they expect the other team to match and they don't want to waste the valuable time. Normally what happens is a RFA ends up singing an offer sheet for some team that is eager to add talent and will overpay for it OR they sign for less than expected.

The Rockets play the game well. Parsons isn't a max guy so nobody is going to fall over themselves to give him an offer in my opinion. They expect the Rockets to match and he isn't a franchise changer.

Just want to note I edited my post because I misread the quote I posted. Sorry you responded to it.

Anyway, I think the Parsons situation is a pretty big pile of unknown. We don't know what other teams are offering. We don't know how much he prioritizes pure cash vs. winning. We don't know if Fegan has some deal lined up. We don't know what Heyward is getting(likely will set up the market for Parsons). It's like Schrodinger's Cat. All possibilities exist until we find out the actual result. :)

Do the Wolves really want to sign Parsons to an offer sheet and force the Rockets too match and not have him available in a trade this summer.

The Rockets are the best trade partner for the Wolves and Parsons is the biggest player they can hope for.

Not quite as bad as the Rockets cutting Jeremy Lin, only to resign him to that huge contract the following season.

    WHOA.
Parsons just wants that cash, I'll be happy for him since he's not leaving all disgruntled either.
Minnesota also gets to keep their white player quota. :)
We should try to send Lin there as well to keep the bromance alive! (And because Lin's salary would probably help in matching salaries in the potential trade).

Actually it's worse. We had to cut Lin because of the glut on PGs on the roster. Minny didn't even want to pick a player when the sold us the Parsons pick. Now, they just sold more picks, proving that they didn't learn their lesson, yet are still trying to obtain Parsons.

One thing to note is that unlike the Warriors, the Rockets can find a way to minimize Parsons "overpaid" contract with the Wolves. The Rockets should be willing and able to take on several of their bad contracts, like JJ Barea, Kevin Martin, Corey Brewer, etc. Overall, it can be a financial benefit to Glen Taylor, who by all accounts is a cheap owner.

The only issue is Lin's salary. But I have no doubt Morey can find $8mil worth of expirings to trade Lin to, so Minnesota doesn't have to absorb his balloon payment.
