If he accepts an offer from some other team, wouldn't that put him under contract and allow us to trade him?
Ok. So taking on Kevin Martin is a deal breaker. I can see that. There are long term ramifications to adding Martins contract, especially if we want to keep Parsons. It's not as simple as "it would just put Les in the luxury tax". Our mid-level exceptions would be limited, and we'd likely run into the "apron"...ie a hard cap. Martin is signed for 3 more years, so unloading him would cost a fortune.
Is it coincidence his unhappiness and all those info leaks happened around the same time? Morey shopped him not that long after Martin invited him to his wedding. He took that personally and he had beef with McHale too.
Howard, Harden, Love, Parsons, and Martin would make around $70 million combined. So yes...you're in dangerous territory for the apron with 7 more slots to fill. It would make it near impossible to build out a bench, or retain our young players.
If a team overpays him, it would stop the Wolves from wanting Parsons. If that team wants him bad enough and knows the Rockets plan is to match and trade, they may be more inclined to offer more. And it is plausable in this league for a GM to over pay Parsons. If I'm Morey I would be selling Minny on the fact that Parsons has no intention of going to that market. I'm also sure we could sell them on taking Jones/Caanan over Parsons anyway. Wolves get Jones, Caanan, Rivers, Thad Young, Hou pick, Pelicans protected pick Rockets get Love Philli get Lin Pelicans get Asik
This. Hopefully it's not too late to pursue Love in earnest, and hopefully Morey can find a third destination for Kevin Martin and make this deal happen.
After the RealGm dude, Carl scooped EVERYONE a day before it hit twitter no one should doubt our guys here.
http://www.pelicansreport.com/showthread.php?80991-I-m-not-one-to-gossip-but-Trade-w-Wolves-! Posted this in another thread. I think this may be the missing link to our unknown trade. I predicted that the Wolves liked Gordon and this seems to coincide with my gut. THIS IS JUST MY GUESS: NOTHING BUT OPINION the asik trade is more than what is rumored. It's the foundation to a bigger deal. I got a shoutout from Doc for sending him a message about NOP working on a deal with the Rockets. I got wind last friday that they were working diligently on something with the Rockets. I had no idea what the pieces were but I got word of the deal through someone who talked to someone in the front office of the NOP, seemed a bit attenuated but I was interested none the less. the guy was in the office all night working on a deal with the rockets, when I heard of the trade through Woj it seemed a bit underwhelming unless it meant something more. To me it screamed that there was 2 options 1) we do the original trade and NOP find a third team to take on their contracts once we get a big named FA or 2) we work the rumored trade into a three or four team deal with NOP and Minnesota, something very complex. The trade that happened doesn't scream (come into the office on a Friday night and work late into the night) .
You're welcome, honestly, I probably won't hear anything more. It isn't someone I know but a good friend and another friend (who knows the person) were talking about it and I caught word. We are all Rockets fans and the friend was told of the deal happening but nothing about the players. If I happen to hear anything else, I'll get it out there. I thought originally I was just throwing something at a wall and that is why I didn't post before, but it turned out that the information was good, it sounded like the parties had been dealing for a while on getting a deal done and it was an urgent thing to get into the office.
honestly I don't know what's going to happen. I'd say most likely scenario is that the trade as rumored goes through and we go on with our FA business. My hunch is what I posted above and this is just based on feeling. With Woj not posting anything more to the deal, it dampens my expectations of a grander deal but the fact that the NOP "insider" is saying they have interest from Flip with Gordon seems to coincide with my original feelings. I hope, as a lifelong Rocket's fan, I am right and my interpretation of Doc's tweets is that there may be something on the table and it may be better to just take the deal and not wait for free agency. Love would be my option 1A. Not Lowry, Not Rondo, Not Melo, Not Bosh. Not even LeBron (because I think it would be a waste of time as cool as it sounds). Let's see what happens by 4th of July. Doc knows something is in the works and last summer he was confidently posting about landing Dwight as early as May. The more active Doc becomes, the more likely he knows something. There is a reason why sometimes he goes months without a Rocket's based tweet. I'm not an insider or a journalist or even someone who has a lot of friends in the NBA so I wouldn't really put much weight into my feelings.
