Are you suggesting maxing Parsons AND signing Deng or in lieu of? Deng might be a better fit on this current team since he would bring everything Parsons does offensively but an improvement defensively. S&T for Love and sign Deng would be about as good as signing just Lebron/Melo.
Please calm down. It's a calculated gamble designed to give the Rockets 3.5 stars, and it's worth the risk.
You headless chickens, as Pat Riley said, get a grip. ________________________________ Heat, not Rockets, in driver's seat for top free agents
In any trade for Love we'd have to trade Parsons, no? Do we have enough assets/salary to match Love's salary? I really like Deng, but it seems like he's not even remotely an option for Morey.
I don't share your pessimism about whiffing on big free agents, maybe because I don't have my hopes up very high. I will say this: I just do not know how we could get Kevin Love without throwing anyone not named Dwight Howard into the hat (whether or not a third team is involved). It isn't lack of imagination on my part. In fact, too much imagination soon takes you into the, "No, no, we're talking reality here, and reality says..." I wouldn't mind taking Taj Gibson into our Asik TE, in exchange for, who knows? And bolstering the PG situation somehow. Kevin Love? Be awesome to have him. Without trading Harden or Parsons + whatever, and involving a third team? Just don't know. And as far as LeBron James, he's staying in Miami. He more or less told Pat Beverly as much (it's somewhere in the GARM).
The argument is that Minny has no leverage and will lose him next season anyway and Love is REALLY pushing for a trade. If we can send some picks, young talent, and expirings/nonguaranteed. Minny might be forced to accept. Of course, then again they didn't accept Klay Thompson and David Lee. We can't send anything much better than that. At this point I'd be happy to see any improvement. Even if we don't get a third star I hope we can make some moves before Chandler Parsons' much huger contract hamstrings us.
We are paying him pennies now, but because we released him now instead of next year he is a restricted free agent we can match any offer, and because we have his "bird rights" (he has been on the team for over 3 years) we can exceed the cap to resign him regardless of the price.

The Rockets are definitely going all in on bringing in a big free agent this year. I like the strategy, but it does make me nervous. If we are able to get a big-time free agent, and then sign Parsons, that would be amazing! But LBJ/Melo are starting to seem more and more unlikely. I'm not sure if we have the right pieces to trade for Love. Kyle Lowry, while a good player, I don't think he would get us into contention status- and I'm not sure if he has any interest playing here. While going all in is exciting, it is nerve-wracking because if we miss on everyone, we would still be forced to sign Parsons to a 9-12mil offer. We would then have a team that was just eliminated in the first round without very much more room to make improvements on our roster. Exciting times! Can't wait to see how Morey's plans will unfold.
