You are probably right. Chile always lost against Brazil before by a lot. This time they were more than equals. I feel for Brazilians. The government put a lot of money into this, and failed to spend it on the population. A semifinal appearance is the least the team can do for its population.
You speaketh the truth. One game is very high scoring and points are scored almost every trip down the oppositions end and the other game not so much. Definitely not like it being decided w/a free throw shooting contest. Do they take a player off the ice in the NHL regular season games that go in PK? The NHL can play multiple overtime periods in playoff hockey because to my knowledge there are unlimited line changes/subs where as in footy there are only 3! Players get tired breh!

The thing is that you usually see Brazil with some wonderful team play and build up, but this year, it seems very individualistic, so many long shots, not much team play. The only areas they seem to be linking well are through the air in the box. DD
Both are examples of games ending in ties and then coming up with some random unrelated way to force an end to the game. Which is why I suggested taking people off the field one by one. It forces an ending to the game. But it's a natural one that involves a ton of strategy, instead of creating some bizarre artificial way to force the end that has nothing to do with how the rest of the game is played.
If Brasil doesn't win the whole thing, Dilma Rousseff is going to be booted out office this year. Kind of crazy to spend all that money just to get a chance at winning the WC, but apparently she and Lula thought it was worth it.
Can't believe we lost. I was confident we would win. That pinilla miss in the 119th minute was killer. So upset. But hats off to Brazil, they finished the penalties. Bravo, Medel and Alexis have given it their all today. Thanks to them we've played great. But its all good, next year Copa America is ours!!
1 v 1 on a field that size and you think they would be quick to score a goal? That is, by far, a more artificial construct than finishing the game with penalties. You are advocating for completely changing the rules of the game and adding something that has never been a part of it.
Of course 1 on 1 would be quick to score. You beat your man and you run to the goal and get an open opportunity against the goal keeper. But you'd only get to 1 on 1 if no one scored at 10 vs 10, 9 vs 9, etc. You already lose men when you get red cards, so reducing players on the field is nothing new. Fewer players is going to be higher scoring because there is more open space to maneuver. So you slowly create more and more open space on the field until someone scores. The odds of getting to 1 on 1 would be almost nil.
Why? Like I said, I don't watch much soccer so I can't really comment too much on the logistics of it. I've talked to a few people who play (amateur) soccer and they love the idea of at least deciding a game by playing some form of soccer instead of the immense luck involved of penalty kicks. But I don't know much beyond that.
Penalties are the best way to end it. It all goes down to tactics. I assure you Chile wanted to finish it in 90 minutes due to their high-energy play. And Scolari was totally okay with penalties.

I could've sworn I mentioned before the tourney started that I think France could get quite far(just forgot they might come up against Nigeria). Maybe I didn't though, either way I always love the French team(just not in 2010 or 2002 ). You on the other hand you just keep underestimating Belgium. SMH
Bro, penalties end the matches. It's been that way and will keep being that way. The amateur soccer players aren't going to change that. (Also had to add- PK's involve equal parts luck and skill). Just deal w/it, no need to reinvent. Watch the matches and enjoy the emotions and intensity of PKs. It's all good.
