WHy can't we match Parsons contract? as long as we are willing to go over the lux we are good..

IF we can get 3 legit stars, a real big 3... I have no doubts Les will pay over the Lux, thats the only way we could ever have a big 4 is by grooming someone already on the team- he is on his way.

If we do not get a big 3.. in the future we are really going to need that cap space so I have no idea what happens

Looks like Rockets are banking on getting 3 max players, then going over the lux to retain Parsons, giving the team a nasty starting core for years to come while relying on draft picks and RGV/good scouting to produce cheap competent high potential players to surround them with

If the plan works.. I like it!

Especially if we keep the rights to that NO pick (somehow?) and it falls to be a decent mid lotto pick

I just want to add.. IF the Rockets get a max guy or even near max guy. you can spin it any way

    Bev/Harden/Parsons/Love/Howard

    Bev/Harden/Parsons/Melo/Howard

    Bev/Harden/Parsons/James/Howard

    Bledsoe/Harden/Parsons/Jones/Howard

    Lowry/Harden/Parsons/Jones/Howard

    ect.. so on

I think the RGV's with the chemistry they have built would be a SICK 2nd nba unit.

Canaan/Daniels/Covington/D-Mo/Jones- a bit under-sized but efficient offensively... THATS more than enough as a spark off the bench, to keep the scoring moving forward and the Rockets in the game while the 1st unit rests. You get a min decent true big to back-up ect.. and your on the way

you throw in a possible 4th lotto pick next season and Capela coming over next season ect- to fill the PF weakness with high potential players... if we keep all the assets... I'm loving the rockets future for years and years

If we trade Lin without giving up alot of good assets.. then right now is such an exciting time to be a Rockets fan

--The only let down you ask?

The uniforms and new secondary logo :( what a bummer

Unless people think Parsons is going to get over about 13.8 million next season Houston will not have to go over the luxury tax threshold to sign Chandler. Even if Les does end up going into LT territory, it is very likely it would only be for next season since the projected LT threshold for 2015/2016 is already at $81 million or $4 million more than this years projected $77 million.

If we sign any FA(s) to max out our cap, we're gonna be paying the tax. You're forgetting that minimums for veterans are much higher than the cap holds. And the Rockets will have room exception which they'll certainly use.

I'm sure Les will pay the tax. If he wanted to cheap his way out, he would've not bothered with Dwight and put the Rockets on the path of contention. You can't contend without paying the tax. Not unless you purposely sabatoge your championship changes(OKC) or have stars who take paycuts(SA).

Bad for us, but Chicago team looks more promising and they are in weak east-conference

My point is that after signing a 3rd star (and prior to resigning Chandler), the Rockets will still have almost $14 million before they hit the threshold for this season. Plus even if they do go over it will not be by much even after filling out the roster. Another thing to consider is that the projected threshold this season is $77 million but the projected threshold for next season is $81 million so there is a very good chance that the Rockets will not go over the threshold 2 seasons in a row. Of course if they find a player with the MLE next summer they could blow right by the new threshold.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

If it's about Pau Gasol then there is no team that will offer him more than 3.2/year, he should go on vet.minimum

Correct. Add $10mil to Parsons salary(assuming he re-signs for $11mil), $2mil for the room exception, another $2mil for some veteran FAs, another mil or two from signing and cutting players with semi-guaranteed contracts, add some more for mid-season trade to upgrade the roster... The only way the Rockets don't meet the tax is if they start to be cheap from here on out. Hard to do if they just signed Melo or LeBron or Lowry or anyone else to contend.

If the Rockets don't use their MLE next year, then I can safely say they'll never attract another big time FA to come here to win ever again under Les' watch. I'm pretty sure Morey's pitch to Dwight, and his future pitch to LeBron and Melo, doesn't include "We may not spend our MLE in the future cause the owner doesn't want to pay the tax."

I don't know, dude. But Calderon and Pau Gasol are Spanish veterans, both winners. And we all know Melo loves the spotlight in New York. So, who knows he might consider staying afterall ...

Why are you still even here? Why should you care about these teams if Houston is the worst sports town in the entire country? How could Dwight Howard possibly sign away the prime of his career to Houston, given that fact?

Oh, what's that? You made that post out of frustration? An obviously exaggerated emotional reaction, of which your opinion modified over time? How unheard of for that to ever happen in over 15,000 posts on a message board for sports diehards.

    Those in glass houses...

Pau played 60 games, averaged 31 minutes with 17 PPG, 10 RPG and 1.5 BPG and you think the most any team will offer him is $3.2 million a season? Your really not that naive right? I'm assuming your just joking.

Phil Jackson is just full of crap. He's a master media manipulator. The same way he used to whine about the refs in the playoffs right before a big game.
