Wait, I thought Lin (along with Asik) HAD to be traded to sign for a max contract player (Melo, LBJ).
He meant secondary pieces along with Lin. Meaning instead of us including a pick with Lin to dump him, we attach DMo (positive value) and Casspi.
As we discussed in the Random trade thread, I agree. Klay is a good player, but he's not good enough to tie up your cap and miss out on other prospects plus Pau. If Minnesota can clear cap, they can sign Pau to a deal that he can't refuse. Forget Dallas and Miami. Minnesota could sign him to a 4 year $60 million deal if they have to. Then you use the assets you get in the trade to clear Martin and/or Pekovics salary (shouldn't be too hard), and poof....max room for Marc Gasol. I always thought that the GSW stuff was rediculous, which likely means they were just being used as leverage...probably against Boston. Boston can clear Minnesota's cap like we can, and I think they've always been the front runner.
Would be great if we could get Love. So far, has there been any indication that he would want to play in Houston, so this does not turn out to be a one year rental? There have been murmurs about Love wanting to play in California and Boston.
Lin thinks he's going to the Warriors or Raptors, hope this isn't just based on rumblings about us going after Lowry and that report that they would take him with Parsons.
That Warriors report was hilarious. Give up Parsons to another Western Conference playoff team just to unload Lin? LOL
They want Love for Klay(I don't believe that the only problem is Thompson) and I want Curry for Parsons.
it's long been known amongst hardcore fans only a franchise with a strong asian market can take on his contract for nbdl esque results. gsw and toronto were always going to be the frontrunners.
I agree with this. If moving Lin gets us Melo or Bron with the cap space, I don't care what happens with Love. But I personally would exhaust all other options before helping GS.
Toronto makes the most sense. That city's Chinese community is very large. And we could take back a contract they don't love but maybe we might. The Chuck Wagon. Lin, Dmo, Capela, rights to that Greek dude, some cash. Yeah,it could work.

It's their largest "minority." I've thought that Toronto would make a good place for Jeremy to land for a long time and checked the numbers. He would be a hit there, in my opinion, and great billboard material. A new player who would really help drive season ticket sales, and as a player who still has upside, he should be appealing. The road block to a deal could be the balloon payment, but that's pretty obvious. If they felt that Jeremy didn't work out after a season, he's an expiring contract.
The largest "ethnic/racial minority" are South Asians/Indians, followed by Chinese, Blacks, and Filipinos. Nonetheless, it is indeed another potential marketing goldmine for Lin's marketing, as he already has a following there, especially considering one of the games there was at the height of Linsanity. But the Raptors also have a large dedicated fan base, so it could rub people the wrong way just like it has for the Rockets.
