He shot higher than that percentage in catch and shoot 3's, closer to 39%. Weakness is shooting off of the dribble.
That is an interesting little stat. If he plays next to Harden, he will catch and shoot more than he will shoot off of the dribble since James is the primary ball handler in the offense. This guy is intriguing. Everything I am reading about him says that he was hurt by his lack of height and the fact that he is a combo guard and not a true 1 or 2. I would think Houston would be the one destination where that would not matter since the point guard hear is only a point guard in name.
Unless the PG is a star PG or at least good enough for the home team to whine about his all star snub, defense and three point shooting are more important than running half court offense in my opinion. My rational is that you generally want the ball in your star's hands. Granted if you don't have a star, PG running the offense well be better...but a team without a star isn't going anywhere.
On offense, James really is essentially the PG. He is the main ball handler and the guy that makes most of the decisions. He averaged over 6 assists a game while the point guard in name (Patrick Beverley) averaged less than 3. James will continue to be the primary ball handler on offense so that lessons the need for a traditional PG IMO.
Completely agree. I am just saying that teams that want to win a championship either have a "Harden" or a star PG. In other words, traditional PGs are only valuable if they are stars. I see the defensive PG with three point shooting as a point guard...just not traditional. It is a semantic argument.
Moreys bev replacement, for injuries or next year due to contract situations... seems like a bev type of fit with harden but can do more
Alright, I've done a search and haven't seen anyone mention this one (so apologies if it's already been posted): what if we drafted a poor man's Joe Dumars? 6'3" off guard who greatly surpassed all expectations. Maybe it's a different era and Joe Dumars wouldn't have the same impact he did once upon a time.
Bob, nobody but you and me on here ever saw Dumars play <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/4wr8zc8Mnag" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Another "Player of the Year" selection. I like it! worked out well with Parsons. Props Morey props...
Oh shut up about our PG only being a PG by name. GO and learn the true role of a point guard. The definition of point guard is not Chris Paul. Johnson would be the point guard. Recognise the defense, get into the offense. Why is it that so many people think the only way to be a point guard is to dribble most of the time and get all the assists. It is a lack of understanding on your part.
Chandler wasn't know know as a top defensive player in college but his defense is what earned him playing time his rookie year
LOL height is pretty much the most overrated stats when it comes to a player, "undersized" PFs like Landry and even Morris have proven to be way more competent than 7'3 other teams draft all the time. This kid is probably 6'2, if he was only 2 inches taller he might've been a lottery pick with his combination of intangilbles, high bball iq and skillset. But because he was 2 inches smaller than the norm he got bumped down all the way to 2nd round, as if 2 inches makes a ton of difference, just wear shoes with high heels and boom, height fixed lol. I like this pick a lot for us, as other posters have said the Bev comparisons are too great to ignore. If we end up keeping Lin having this dude and Lin together would give us a heck of a 2nd unit.
