He's already better than Badiane. Badiane at his peak could only play in a 2nd/3rd division league in France.
There is a 507,336 incomplete roster charge for each roster spot fewer than 12. Capela will take take up the empty roster spot reducing the Rockets incomplete roster charge by 507,336. So subtract the 507,336 from the #25 draft pick cap hold which is actually 991,000 and the difference is an additional 483,664 dollars against the cap if he does not agree to play over seas in the coming season.
This should be his theme song <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/-i7DSmKyOSk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm so happy we are keeping him. I think his offensive game is being undersold. He legitimately could be a second or third scoring option on a good team with his finishing ability
I wouldn't go that far, but his one strength - cutting to the basket - fits in with what the Rockets already do on offense with the Harden/Dwight pick and roll. I could see him being efficient offensively backing up Howard. Not a "scoring option" per se, but not an embarrassment on the offensive end, which, when paired with a real defensive presence, is not horrible.
Badiane all over again?? Maybe this version will make the team. But his "weaknesses" description and nbadraft.net is a huge red flag. Athletic big men who are "lazy" describes a heck of a lot of big man busts in nba history.
Anyone have stats on POR vs OKC and LAC vs OKC? Curious as to how effective Ibaka is defending Aldridge and Griffen.
What Morey was trying to build then is very different than what he is trying to build now. Not saying Capela couldn't be a trade asset, obviously, but Morey needed 'performance' guys because they would be quickly turned into trade assets while he was shopping for a 'star'. Different situation now, at least if the Rockets are looking long term. At this point it's just as important to have some potential down the line, if (ideally) you have your star 'core' and need to reload around them during your window.
Griffin - 24.75 ppg/10.25 rpg/4.75 apg/3.75 topg Aldridge - 26 ppg/ 13.75 rpg/2.5 apg/1.75 topg Idk if it was primarily Ibaka guarding them though.
So we're dumping Garcia, Casspi, Canaan, Covington, Daniels now? Also, Nick Johnson doesn't sound like he'll be going overseas anytime soon.
Perhaps you're right, Morey hasn't decided what to do yet and will make the sensible move at the right time if and when a superstar decides to pick us. Listen to him hype up Capela though. He tested out really well in all the Rockets' super-secret hand-eye coordination tests? What about his whack-a-mole skills? Ability to complete a shopping spree dash while staying under his budget? Oh, and let me guess, he's got a REALLY good Wonderlic score. I don't think you'll hear Morey talk about other draft picks in such a fashion for a while
Garcia has already said he is opting out. Casspi, Powell and Covington all have non-guaranteed contracts which will almost certainly be cut for cap room if needed. Asik is gone, Lin will have to be traded for nothing in return. Nick Johnson is a 2nd round pick and unlike 1st round picks, does not count against the cap until they actually sign him. So to save cap space, I can assure you that he will not be signed until after Lebron/Melo situation has been resolved. Daniels was a rotation player in the play-offs so I doubt they will cut him unless absolutely necessary. Canaan's contract is guaranteed for next season so I don't see them trying to trade him unless the space is absolutely necessary.
