You should have never had your hopes up that high in the first place. It was a dream scenario, most likely not happening. Glamor city, titles, little to no competition in the East, and his legacy being tarnished further by jumping ship again has to be kept in mind.

LeBron helped Miami get a good point guard but hes still saying to himself "I'm still opting out"

Yeah I dont get it on their part. I think Napier would have been a good fit. Why help out another team in the East- especially one in your divison? If Lebron left or hell even if he stayed and Miami didnt bring in young talent- the East would be blown wide open.

Wade and Bosh still have to opt out, it's not a done deal yet.

Drafting Napier doesn't mean a thing other than increasing his likelihood of staying. How much did it just increase? Let's be real... he's a rook playing the hardest position on the team and LeBron wants to win it all next year. Bad combo.

I don't claim to be an expert, but from what I understand, all the free-agent offers he gets would be pretty similar with NYK being the exception as they can offer an extra year. I think the only way for Melo to get a longer deal from another team would be through a sign-and-trade.

LMAO at some of these tweeters.

Yes, nothing says retooling for a championship run like signing eight or nine undrafted rookies to your squad.

Not helping another team, they made Miami's pick more expensive (cap and in real dollars), while making their own pick (who they were targeting) cheaper (again, real $$ and cap) and got two 2nd rounders (one they sold for a couple hundred thousand dollars last night, one they get in 2019 and got cash considerations from Miami to boot. They apparently wanted PJ Hairston from the start and knew that Houston was likely going the stash route.

To "fit": Napier would have been a pretty bad fit as the key issue identified was a size deficit across their starting five. Having $1mm tied up in a player that mirrors his starting counterpart doesn't move the needle. They never wanted a backup PG in the draft (said prior they want one via FA and already have Ramon Sessions saying he wants back).

Bottom line, the Hornets were never taking Napier for themselves. They were however looking for a competent SG. They just got paid to do what they were doing anyway and on top of that, slightly lowered their cap hit while raising Miami's.

I have yet to hear a good reason/scenario where old, broken Wade decides to opt out instead of cash in on the last years of his big contract...

Me either. Not one. Lots of people saying "he should" do this or that, but without some backroom hidden deal, it still makes no sense, unless he's intimidated by Riley and Lebron now.

A good "rationale" I've heard is that they'll just sign him to a longer contract for the same OR MORE money. Right.

The Heat can't be that stupid.

It it could make sense for Wade if the Heat offer him 5 years 60 million dollar deal, with a starting salary of 10 million. It would equal nearly 20 million more than his current 2yr 42 million dollar contract. Its probably unlikely that a 34 years old Wade could get a contract for another 20 million in 2016.

For the Heat, the contract would give them cap space to immediately improve the team at the cost of probably having to eat 20+ million in dead money. The cost/benefit could be maximized by structuring the deal as -
    Year 1 - 12million
    Year 2 - 13million
    Year 3 - 14million
    Year 4 - 12million
    year 5 - 09million

5 year contract for a player that's already proven he's just about done. Tell me more...

I have been thinking this same thing just didn't want to be the first to post it. I can see Lebron saying to Wade and Bosh that I am gonna opt out early and you guys wait til the last day and let's watch the media circus ...laughing about it the whole time. It's the "decision 2" from a different angle. All 3 of them are just attention whores and enjoy yanking everyones chain. I think our main focus is clearing cap and stockpiling picks for a Kevin Love run and keeping all other options open.

Or, they're about to make multi-million dollar decisions that will impact their careers, their financial future, their family, and the most importantly, their legacy.

What's the 3 days, when you only get about 3 weeks to think it over...

and then tell me how you think the Over 36 Rule in the CBA affects this plan....it's pretty complicated, maybe aaeliott or Bima can chime in with a breakdown.
