Actually they would have to pay @7mm left on an 8.3 contract. Though if we do still have our full 3 million left to help cushion the blow.
I think what that tells you is that the Rockets value whatever they would have to give up to move Lin and don't want to give it up unless they absolutely need the cap room. They would rather eat Lin's salary then lose a draft pick or player like DMo or TJones.
And they would like to stay over the cap if possible and keep exceptions. Keeping Lin around provides pure flexibility
You don't lose your exceptions just because you are under the cap. What happens is that your exceptions count against the cap too. So let's say your payroll is $10M under the new cap and you still have your MLE ($5.8M). Then technically you are only $4.2M below the cap (since the MLE counts against the cap). If you wanted to use that $10M cap room to sign a player then you'd have to first renounce your MLE in order to have the full $10M in cap space. So, unless we actually use our cap space then we'll still have our MLE regardless of our payroll.
How is that any different from just having 10 mil in cap space? I understand what you're saying, but I don't see an advantage.
if we were to take back more salary in a trade that then reduced the $10m to $4m, by not renouncing the exception, we'd still have it. At least I think
Lol i can't take Broussard serious what so ever, has he ever had anything correct or any real inside info?
He actually was first to report the potential love/klay stuff & lebron opting out. All the stuff he says doesn't come true just like woj, stein, etc, but he comes off confident that somethings going to happen majority of time vs them
