Fine... bars that are actually frequented by many and show a lot of local sports do. Sorry that you're mostly not in Houston, "houstunna"
Then why did you say you can't watch the Astros at "any" bar in Texas? I was at a bar/restaurant in Tyler a few weeks ago and was able to watch the Astros. Why is it Crane's fault if a bar in Amarillo chooses not to show the Astros?
"Choice", lol... it was blacked out. Same thing supposedly always happens in Waco. Couldn't watch the Rockets in Victoria. Many of the main spots in Houston I like don't have CSN. The list goes on. It shouldn't be such a challenge to watch games. Outside of Texas I've never had a problem. Meanwhile, it's Rangers/Mavs all-access everywhere. Crane certainly shares huge blame.
Crane was ready to dissolve the network and seek carriage elsewhere. Comcast filed an involuntary bankruptcy which has kept the network in a holding pattern for 9 months.
so we can't discuss the news? we can't interject anything? i can get the news through the media...i thought this was a discussion board. a place to discuss the news.
i'd certainly say that the discussion on this page stems from news that was published last week regarding EnTouch. But if that's where we are..where on a discussion board a subject is sooo volatile that we can't discuss it for any reason..then shut every thread regarding the subject down already. And the minute someone starts up another, just kill it, or ban from those threads the people who you think are the problem. News can be had from news sources. This is a discussion board.
Let me start with this (not directed at Max). I'm capable of handling things that need to be moved, deleted, moderated. I don't need help other than reporting stuff in case I'm slow to see it or just miss it. With that these threads and others keep getting deleted because the conversations turn from discussing the topic and providing relevant info to people arguing over who is smarter and knows everything. That is why the past threads have been shut down. They have gone from productive to petty and down from there. Discussing the news is completely valid, which is why the EnTouch stuff is still here. Even the initial post by houstunna is borderline valid because it does deal with CSN. Although the info has been beat to death, isn't accurate, and wasn't presented in the most eloquent way, it still kind of fits and I handled its problems in a private manner. As max states above, this is a forum for discussion. I have yet to attempt to deter that. What I have tried to do, and the reason for the notice post, is attempt to get people to follow a few basic things. Opening the game thread to a slew of posts discussing call ups and demotions (some of which happened months ago) is not relevant to that thread. Especially when there are other threads for that. In fact, some of the posters that were guilty had already posted the same things in the proper place. There was no need to repost it in 4 more threads. I'm trying to curb this habit by a few individuals. I do my best to try to keep my personal opinions out of moderation. If I didn't there would be a few of you that would have been long gone, ages ago. I'm not trying to squelch discussion but trying to keep this place readable. I don't want it turning into the GARM, where often every thread gets hijacked and turned into a free for all. If you don't like that then you may need to find another Astros forum. Personally I think we have well informed posters, that do a good job even if I disagree with some of their opinions. I'm just trying to keep this place orderly and somewhat civil.
I hear ya, and I understand entirely. I think it's disappointing that conversation goes the way it has gone...though not wildly surprising given the way other forums on this site have gone...and how it is on the internet, generally, on message boards. My response today was directly to the notion that we were ONLY to post news updates...that it's only for news updates. If that's the case, lock me out of here, because I won't miss it. The news is pretty easy to find. I've appreciated the input of guys like Carl Hererra and Refman who have a background in bankruptcy law, specifically...as well as justtxyank who always has great input. When someone says something like Granville did earlier that "CSN must come down on price" then I'm gonna respond to that like I did earlier today..because it's a half-truth. You can only come down on price if you can afford to...if your operating costs allow it. If the market demands a lower price, and you can't afford to sell at that price, then you're out of business...which sounds a lot like where we are right now. If commenting like that is off limits here, then I need to know that because I don't want to make your job here more difficult than it already is, and I'll just stay away from the thread entirely.
Houstunna has been the problem for the last page, and it is those kind of comments that have lead themselves to ruining the CSN threads.
Castor, Why did I get a warning for inappropriate language in this post? I did not curse or say anything out of line.
And I'd respond that the teams are likely receiving too much in media rights fees (based on current market) and that's why the Network might lose money if they lowered their demands. The Astros wouldn't be losing money on the entire deal just on the Network part of it. Overall they would make a profit. I think Castor wants us to quit arguing those things and just comment on the news.
LOL, that threw me for a second. I had to check why I had done that. It was a mistake. I posted it from my iPad and flagged the wrong post. It was for something else and not for you. I apologize and I am in the process of removing it . You can ignore it.
