So now that US lost to Germany, and Portugal beat Ghana, what does the US need to do/happen to advance out of the Group Stages?
The strategy from here on out will be to score more goals than the other team... whoever does that usually advances.
Pretty much the "dream result" we talked about pre-tournament: understand we'd lose to Germany, beat Ghana, draw Portugal and hope for the best. The game against Portugal just elevated expectation.
True, realistically this was the best outcome. My heart dropped when I saw our grouping. I knew we would be matched with a powerhouse but I didn't think we would get matched with a powerhouse like Germany and two strong teams in Portugal and Ghana.

US did not look good, the 1-0 scoreline was flattering. Won't be enough against Belgium if that's who they end up with. Bradley has been disappointing considering his form coming into the world cup. He needs to find it again and fast. When he's "ON" the US looks much more dangerous.
I wouldn't call it flattering. Germany dominated possession but it's not like they created a ton of great scoring opportunities. 1-0 result is a pretty expected score
Yep, and the USA could have scored the equalizer late if not for a great sliding deflection by Germany. DD
Or if Dempsey could've gotten over that header. And that ball that Bradley played over the top to Jones could've been it, too. If he could have just gotten a touch on it, he would have been past the German keeper.
