Listen! There is way too much serious discussion in this thread right now. Please refrain and return to interpreting Doc Rocket prophecy.
Parsons tweet probably is in reference to where you get drafted by pick # not team location. He was a 2nd rounder, he's saying it doesn't matter if you get picked 1st or 45th, what matters is what kind of career you will have.
Chad Ford said the other day that the GS/Minny deal is done in principle, its just waiting on final pick & sub player negotiations to finalize which there isn't really a huge rush to accomplish. He said that if a deal doesn't get done it would be out of "Pure Stubbornness". Could the Rockets still interject now that they have the Asik pick (or will have come July 1st)???.... Sure, but at the end of the day its obvious that Klay Thompson & David Lee is the package the Rockets have to compete with from a PLAYER perspective.... so we are talking about comparing apples and oranges as far as assets are concerned (That Minny is looking to acquire). And if we are competing now with players instead of assets, you are looking at needing to now throw Parsons & Jones on the table to even get in the conversation..... (I love Parsons & Jones but that's pushing it in comparing vs. Thompson). If Flip Saunders is sold on Klay Thompson as a future All-Star to build around, its going to be tough sledding on convincing Flip to look at your players instead. I think Morey has known for awhile that Klay Thompson was ultimately going to get put in the deal, and that's why you haven't heard anything from Morey as he rightfully shifts focus to 2 better players who are probably more attainable at the moment and can be gotten WITHOUT Parsons going in the deal.
Probably all true if Klay is in the deal, especially along with Lee. But there have been conflicting reports also saying that GS would not put Klay in the deal, which changes everything. Maybe that is why Ford said it would only be "pure stubbornness" if the deal didn't get done.
I wonder how much enjoyment Doc Rocket gets watching us try and solve this. Maybe this just simply means the rockets need two more first rounders by July 4th, to meet Minny's demands
Just a hypothetical question, what if lebron would sign if we got love. and minny would only trade love for parsons and some other stuff.. you would have to be down to trade parsons then... right?
He's in the deal. That's just part of the negotiations. According to some other reports I've heard out there, GS is "apparently" going to try and go for Love AND Lebron/Melo in a S&T with Iggy/Bogut. If true there is no way they aren't already dead set on trading Thompson. Sounds to me like a ploy to try and keep other contracts out of the deal coming back to GS (which would make their next move nearly impossible). Timing is everything with draft day trades & free agency. The Rockets made a very bold statement yesterday to Lebron & Melo with the Asik deal, but GS has yet to make that same bold statement to those guys as well. They have realistically only a couple days (while the big 2 contemplate who they are going to meet with seriously on July 1st) to make the Kevin Love deal and to setup themselves for serious S&T pitch. What's crazy about all of this hoopla is that Kevin Love getting moved is all just subplot to the main storyline. This is how impactful Lebron James going to free agency is to the NBA. Its all about Lebron right now.
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I'm saying that markets and demand play out nothing at all like you're suggesting, it just doesn't work that way. The market for Love is essentially the teams for whom he is the apple of their eye, it's not ours, it's not Chicago's and until those play out, we have no reason to lock ourselves in so until that point, the teams for whom he is will be sending offers better than ours, they know it, we know it, and minnesota knows it. Take us and Golden state, since they clearly seem more interested in him than we are at this point, their offer of Y is greater than our offer of X. One of two things will happen, we will get out free agent, let's say Lebron, then we need to get rid of Lin, so now Golden State goes hmm, what if we agree to take Take Lin and Dmo for our 2014 pick and maybe the knicks second rounder, and this is our best dump option, so they take them, and now Minnesota get the original offer + those picks, Minny wins. So the other alternative is we don't get ****, now at this point Love becomes more important to us, maybe the most important, what happens to the amount of your offers in this scenario? They will switch from "well we'll take it if you're dumb enough to sell it to us for that" to "we might consider giving you a fairish price", and now X may actually exceed Y, again, Minny wins.
I think - - interpreting not Doc Rocket but Flip Wilson er Saunders - - that the key to a GSW deal is who they will take BACK to open cap room. The amount of salary waste that a team takes with KLove will swing the deal. That is my interpretation. And - - does Saunders deal with GSW if Klay is included but does NOT agree to an extension? Klay winding up in LaLaLand with the #7 heading to Minnyland; plus the unwanted salaries to Buss er boot?
While all of that is possible, until GS makes that bold statement, I don't think anyone can be 100% that Klay is in the deal. Sure, if you have Lebron telling you that he will come if you get Love, then you make that deal. But that's probably not going to be how it is communicated, or Lebron could say that to every team. I don't think Lebron, Curry and Love are better than Lebron, Howard and Harden once you add what the supporting casts will be, although I will admit that it is arguable. Plus, we have the option of getting Love also with Lebron...possible, no matter how remote it is.
So lets say they try to piece together a trade for Love, i'd like to show you Basketballholic, what they can do. S&T Bradley(4years 30mill), Brandon Bass(expiring), Bogans(non guaranteed), Olynyk, Sullinger, 6th overall pick, 17 overall pick, 2015 first rd pick, 2017 first rd pick, multiple future 2nd rd picks, Paul Pierce TPE for Love, Martin, Budinger(TPE) and Mbah-Moute(TPE) That's a possible deal, Minny would get about 13 million in cap space (more then we can give them), 4 first rd picks, 2 being number 6 and 17 in this loaded draft, multiple second rd pics (landslide better then out picks), they'd also get Olynyk and Sullinger who are very valuable young players (much more so then Jones or Motiejunas), they would take on 3 terrible contracts (we cannot take back anything near that) and they give minny about 9.5 in TPE. There, basketballholic tell me how Celtics can't offer more and that we don't need to even give up Parsons to trump any offer they try to assemble.
Totally agree!... Doc Rocket please tweet something, anything, before we all start donating blood and fixing world hunger!.. ....... ....... .......
