They are aiming higher right now. I think they have Love and Lebron on their radar. But whether it's Lebron or Melo, they needed to clear cap space. And Asik was gone anyway. We might as well get a decent pick for him now while it's available. Who knows what package may come up that we can sweeten the pot with that pick. And Lin....well he's going to cost us a pick. So if we do happen to strike out on the FA market, then why send out a pick when you can just ride his contract out.
It's really quite simple guys. Someone above almost got it. We've got deals in place to cast away salary by July 4th. Philly is set to take Lin. Thereafter our three targets (trying to get 1 of 3) are: Eat - Marshmellow - Melo Pray - King James Love - Kevin
As great as love would be (and I have him #2) I think opportunity to acquire an all star like Bron, Lowry, bosh or Melo without giving up anything is a much better scenario than trading the farm for Love (which we would assuredly have to do). I could maybe see Chandler and picks since we can't pay him and 3 allstars.
It does depend on what Minny wants. At this point I am sure Harden would do it if you wanted to trade and still keep the cap room for Lebron. But if Harden was off the table then Lin+TJones+DMo+Pelican's pick+#25+ future 1st might be enough. That trade would cost us our cap space but we aren’t a guaranteed to get a FA while a traded player is a guarantee. And I’d rather have Love than any FA but Lebron. Add to that that Lebron’s odds of coming here are slim. But if he does want to join in the fun, we have Harden as a SnT which I know Pat said he wouldn’t do a SnT but if given Harden as a option then I think he snaps that up. With Howard, Love, Harden and Parsons you have 3.5 stars…3.5 very young stars. Give them a couple of years to gel and reload the bench with MLE (which I think we lose with the Asik trade). In a few years when Kobe, Melo, Bosh, Dirk and even Lebron start fading or just don’t have the help, we will be hard to stop. edit: And if Harden is not off the table for Love then a Love for Harden trade is more than enough (I'd even expect a decent pick back from Minny). Trade Lin and DMo for cap space and you have around 18mm (including the Ask cap space) for Lebron. Now you'd probably only want to do that trade if you knew Lebron was coming here and I don't think we'd know that until after all the meetings. But you would have Howard, Love, Lebron which for a frontline might be the best frontline ever.
