Hornets have to trade a piece to make room for Asik? So maybe Rivers gets put with Lin to go to Philli so we can keep our current pick to send to Minny in the Love deal?

Lin/Rivers to Philli, Asik to Hornets, picks to Houston.

You are fooling yourself if you think that defensive front court won't be tough. Asik guards Dwight better than any other player in the league. Watch his Bulls highlights vs Orlando.

You are aware that Asik was already traded or no?

Yah, Asik gave Howard trouble. Did you watch one of those posterize videos where they show 5 different angles and slow motion of the same play over and over again? And then hit reply? Cause it's just one play, not an education.

Does it matter ? If we cannot win NO with JH and DH then they don't deserve to consider themselves a borderline championship team.

I disagree. They get Asik for one year at a high price (not capwise, but salarywise). Then he is an unrestricted FA and if they want to keep him, they'll have to pay him big bucks (probably somewhere around 12 million a year). Like the article stated, you need first round picks for salary managing purposes.

I don't hate the deal for the Pelicans - Asik is a great fit and will help Davis a lot. And it makes them the frontrunner to sign him in 2015 - and the pick is probably in the 12-19 range anyways and those are hits and misses. But it is definetly not a homerun. I'd give it a C+ probably.

That's a good point. We've got to expect more from our stars if we want to win it all!

Actually there are multiple local sources and Pelican forums reporting various leaks from unnamed Pelican insiders claiming that Ryan Andersen will be traded to Phoenix for Gerald Green and the #14 pick to clear salary for Asik. I hope not. I live in the area and Ryan is one of my favorite players. But the move does fill the only remaining hole in the Pelican starting roster after Asik arrives; small forward. There's also talk of using the #14 pick as a teaser to help facilitate an Eric Gordon trade but the second part of these rumors have nothing to do with Asik. Caution: no links or names were provided so I have no idea if any of this is accurate or just pure speculation....but given the fact the Pelicans must shed salary to make room for Asik (which they obviously cannot do by tomorrow) and are worried about Ryno's health and durability, it does make sense.

Yeah. That seems to be it. Green earns about $3.5M/yr. Trading Andersen ($8.5M/yr) for Green frees up about $5M of salary. The other $3.5 needed to absorb Asik's $8.5M cap hit will reportedly come from non-guaranteed contracts. Pelicans aren't at all concerned about the "extra" $7M of Asik's $15M. It does make sense but like I said, it's still a rumor with unnamed sources, and I hate rumors because unless you know and trust the source, they don't really mean much.

Man, Asik anchoring the D with Davis lurking about, that's gonna be a hell of a team.

This is a solid move by Morey. I love Asik's defense and trading him will make us worse, but this had to be done. He was a malcontent who was going to bolt next year. Getting a late lotto pick for a guy on the last year of his deal and a balloon payment is an impressive return. Houston now has this years 1st and two 1sts next year to deal with. And we are that much closer to having the cap space we need to add a 3rd allstar.

Feeling extremely good about this deal.

I don't know if it makes us worse since I don'T know what we will do with the capspace yet. Asik gave us perhaps 15 minutes a game. It is very possible that we get a solid starter for his caphold. Lowry for example - and you never know what we can get out of that draft pick. And there always is the possibility of us signing one of the big guys with the salary felxibility.

So I am actually pretty sure, that his move makes us better. Backup C might be an issue going forward though...

Bro I was saying that in and of itself the move makes us worse. I don't think anyone can deny that. But agreed, hopefully what the rockets do with the cap space (and the pick) will make us better. I fully expect to land one of the top 4 FAs. It was a more than solid move by his Moreyness.

get the right coach with New Orleans and they could be the new spurs, with how great eyebrows will become. as always, if eyebrows can stay healthy.

I was listening to the Erik Kuselias show just a couple of hours ago and he was talking about the Asik trade and the imminent move to trade Lin and how these moves could allow the Rockets to form a super ridiculous starting lineup comprised of Lebron, Howard, Melo, and Harden. Indeed that lineup would be just filthy crazy good.

More needs to impress on Lebron and Melo about the potential to create a real dynasty for years to come, even surpassing Jordan's Bulls achievements.
