Was there no benefit to taking a pay cut again?

Huh, thought he was going to do this:

Duncan decision coming, and here's an option I'm hearing: Opts out and signs a 2-year deal that both lowers payroll and rewards him.
— Buck Harvey (@Buck_SA) June 23, 2014

Well, they're going to have loads of cap space at the end of next year, so maybe he wants some flexibility?

Or maybe they believe that they can re-sign Mills and Diaw without Duncan taking a cut?

I think this is a good indication it's his last year. Otherwise he'd opt for a new multi-year deal. Spurs don't repeat. End of an era.

Most of the Spurs contracts expire next season, so it makes sense for him to make one more run at it.

Yeah, not too fair that Duncan (and all the Spurs) work so cheaply.

Only thing he's chasing is the repeat as champions title.

If they won it the year before he'd be retired now.

If they lost this year he'd be retired now.

Going back to back is basically the only thing he hasn't achieved yet.

I think it's pretty lame that we've NEVER been in a playoff series with him. Hopefully we can send him into retirement in the WCF next year :p

Yeah cause the $180 mil he has earned is just not enough.
He wants #6 more than a few extra mil he couldn't spend in this lifetime anyways.

Boundless respect for the big fella. He's still a max player, yet he's taking half the salary to help the Spurs front office produce a winning team. As a fan, what more could you want from a player? Freakin' too much, if you ask me. How I wish this guy was a Rocket.

This guy is simply unbelievable. Sickening that more people don't appreciate him and what he stands for. What a great ambassador for the game yet the NBA failed it big time.

How much do you guys think Duncan is worth if he decided to Opt out? What would teams be willing to pay him?
