I think this is just Morey proving that he can clear the cap space to sign one of the big free agents. This will encourage the Knicks to do a sign and trade for Melo with us, if Melo chooses Houston, so that they don't lose Melo for nothing. I have a strong feeling this trade will become part of a bigger trade where the Rockets land Melo. This let's the Rockets keep the MLE too.

OK, this means Harden/Lin to New York for Melo, which frees up the cap room to get Lebron STRAIGHT UP OMGosh this would me spectacular!

Like I said, it's possible NO was the only team willing to swallow Asik's poison pill contract.

Too bad Asik is staying within the division. Guess it won't matter with Bron/Melo/Howard.

Trading Lin is the bigger challenge.

You shouldn't judge something on his good it might make the other team.

Also it should be noted the Twin Towers was basically a failure. Partly because of Asik's moping, but it is what it is. It was only successful in the playoffs to the extent it was a better lineup than the one with no-d Jones. It still wasn't exactly super amazing.

If the worst case is the room created provides absolutely nothing but the pick next year... That's not bad... Especially when you consider that Asik would mope again and never resign with Houston.

I don't recall any real offers for him at the deadline, unless you were super excited by offers like Thaddeus Young or Brandon Bass. I'd MUCH rather have the option, even if unlikely, of adding a Melo or Lebron.

The timing here is interesting and obvious. This is a clear signal to agents and Melo and James. We can create the room... Easily.

As much as I dislike LeBron, watching ESPN go into convulsions over him signing with the Rockets would be hilarious.

I think this pick might have the same protection the Rockets received from the Raptors in the Kyle Lowry trade. We'll see.

Lin hasn't been traded yet. It was generally agreed Asik has trade value. The Rockets may have gotten a 1st round pick for Asik but they also have to give up $1.5M in cash. It appears the $$$ do matter. Lin could prove to be too costly in multiple ways.

It means he traded Omer Asik and cleared some cap room. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

No, but I think it definitely means they're confident.

My guess is that since they're not good enough even WITH Asik to do much more than a 1st-round exit next year, they're going to offer him up at the trade deadline to a contender with an injured center. Get some pieces to place around AD and maybe a draft pick or two.

Then again, if he and AD can play well together, they might look at re-signing him.
