Health, employment, competitive landscape, time value of money, etc. Any number of things, and at the end of the day the only thing you're left holding (or not holding) is a contract. Let's say they all do what you are suggesting. What could go wrong? 1) Wade could continue his downward spiral, to the point where he's bench fodder. 2) The Heat could lose. That's right......there's no guarantee they win, even if they add a player like Lowry or Gasol. What happens then? Riley quits? Spolestra gets fired? Everyones (excluding Lebron) value takes a hit. What is logical and plausible is for everyone to act in their own interest. To argue otherwise isn't sound or rational. You're asking Lebron, Bosh, and Wade to absorb all the risks (short contracts) and take lower guaranteed payouts. I'm saying that isn't how the market works. A business or franchise isn't "everyone pulling in the same direction"....its aligned interests. Whether the Heat have enough aligned interests at this point is in question.
So you're not offering a solution for them staying together. You're saying they're going to bust up. I do think it's a possibility that they bust up. However....my suggestion is concerning if they are serious about staying together and winning championships. If they are serious about these 2 things I'm suggesting one-year contracts are a possibility. You're not suggesting anything. EDIT: By the way....just thought about something....... How would it look if Wade opted out and took the minimum for one season and then Riley dropped him on the street after Wade sacrificed $41 million to help Lebron and Bosh stay in town and add to the team and make it a championship contender again?????? What would that say about Riley and Arison???????? Think about it. If you think that Riley and Arison would not do anything but the right thing by Wade......then you simply don't understand how big business works, how the NBA works, and how loyalty and trust works. If the big 3 stay together I believe they will all 3 take one-year contracts at a reduced rate of say $8-12 million or Lebron and Bosh will sign long-term deals at their max and Wade will opt out and take the minimum for one season. And it makes all the business sense in the world for both sides to do it.
If they are staying together, they will just do long term big money deals. Maybe at a discount, but noway are they doing a big discount or only 1 season deals. They want the security, they want the money and they want the team that can compete. So LeBron and Bosh will look if they can get this with Miami - and if not, they will take their talents elsewhere. Both will be offered the max somewhere, guaranteed. And both will have a chance to join a team like Houston or Chicago and make them instant contenders.
Sure they are serious about championships.......and getting paid for what they do. To what degree of either, I don't know. What I do know is that if it wouldn't have made financial sense for them to have created the big 3, they wouldn't have gone through with it. What do all rookies say they are surprised by when they get into the NBA? "It's a business". Let's use Parsons as an example. Morey may very well make him a RFA this year based on a promise he made last year. Or he may not. Morey will act in the best interest of the organization he represents. Players will do the same, which is why making Parsons an UFA is concerning....you don't have control. Even the idea of waiving his qualifying offer for ONE DAY in order to have more cap to sign a free agent is worrisome. Remember when Morey was asked "when did you know you had Dwight?" He said, "when he signed on the line". Now......what do I think will happen? No idea.....neither does the rest of the media, which is why everyone is leaning toward them staying. My best guesses are: 1) Lebron decides to leave. Bosh opts out and signs with someone else. Wade opts in. 2) They all stay. Lebron and Bosh take small paycuts. Wades takes a larger paycut, but still gets a 5 year deal. 3) They all reup for the most they can get. Use the MLE to improve the roster.
I assume you mean #2. Trade Cole and their 1st for a non-guaranteed contract and a future 2nd. Lebron and Bosh sign for $17 million. Wade signs for $12 million. Sign Lowry for $8 to $10. All 5 year contracts (4 for Lowry).

If Minnesota hangs on to Love past the draft, then the Rockets have a chance should they strike out on Bosh/Melo/LeBron trio. I think it's at least possible that Minnesota will offer the same deal to Parsons(we pay you more than anyone else) that they use for Klay Thompson, so that he'd go in a S&T, along with Jones, our pick this year, and future picks. We can also offer salary relief because unlike Golden State, Morey doesn't f**k around. He'll take the likes of KMart or Budinger to help Minnesota dump their crap.
I'd take KMart back in a second if it meant Love. Martin can still play and makes less than Lin, perfect 6th man. Maybe the Asik trade before the draft indicates cap clearing space to take back pieces from Minn?
Heck with Melo. I'd rather trade Harden for Love. Howard/Love/Lebron/Parsons/Beverely....insane. The size of that lineup would be astounding, as would the general fit, spacing, rebounding, defense, scoring. It would be unstoppable. We'd have to start at "not 13, not 14" LOL
So, tehnically, Omer will be a Rocket past draft night since the trade can't be finalized until then.
Well as long as the league doesnt enforce its pimp hand again, the Rockets maximized with this deal. Got a 2015 first rounder for an expiring with reverse protections. Cant wait till this deal is official with the league...argh
Assuming the Rockets strike out on all the FAs, and Minnesota keeps Love until then. This CAN be our offer. Note that the following are separate trades to maximize the amount of salary Minnesota can dump. Parsons $6.5mil for Budinger + Shved ($8.2mil) - This assumes Parsons is signed for $13mil starting salary. For purpose of trades, his salary has to be cut by half because of CBA restrictions. Lin $8.3 + Jones $1.6 + 1st round pick this year $1mil, future 1st rounder, Pelicans 1st rounder for Kevin Love $15.7 Total trade, Parsons + Lin + Jones + 3 1st round picks for Kevin Love + Kevin Martin + Alexi Shved Not sure if this is overpay or if Minnesota would take it. But it would seem more than competitive with Golden State's offer.
