We know how Harden,Durant,LeBron and some of the others flop and wave their arms so they can get foul calls and shoot free throws. If the refs didn't call those fouls would those players still average 20+ points per game?

I could see all three still averaging twenty per. They're all very good at getting into the paint. Harden would have the toughest time of the three. Durant can use his length, and James would use his strength to get to the rim. Harden would have to rely on strength.

Most players don't even have the body type or durability to get calls in the paint. I hate when people say it like it's some variable that can be handed to any player.

This. If it was so easy to do, everyone would do it.

Harden would get 20+ but his % would take a hit and he'd be less effective overall. Durant would just shoot more jumpers, his % would take hit but he'd still be a top 3 player. With Lebron you'd barely notice a difference.

And what if every time you turned the ball over you lost points for your team?

    We would be horrible.

The better question, OP. Let's shift directions to this 2nd question.

I think the bulky, violent NFL-like "basketball players" would average about 0.5 points per game, and the average career of a player would be about 6 games.

Kevin Durant's career would last one additional minute after this rule change.

How many points would players average if they were allowed to be tackled when driving into the post?

    None.

If I knew that I would never be called for a foul, I'd just go Kurt Rambis all over them.

NBA Career Expectancy = 3 games.

Of course you can't just not call fouls. It's just as silly as people suggesting never calling charge.

That said. I've always wanted them to stop calling foul when the offensive player initiated the contact. The so-called "smart" "veteran" moves are just plain unfair rules. I am glad they stopped calling the rip-through move... at least some of the time.

they didn't stop calling it...they just made it a side-out foul instead of a shooting foul.

I don't think it would really effect the scoring much (maybe a slight dip). These players will adapt, its not like they get 80% of their points from waving their arms and flopping on the way to the basket. Rules are rules (even tho today's standards does help the shooters and the perimeter players). Besides the 50/50 fouls that you are given or Not given all come out in the wash anyway.

Unless you say get rid of fouls all together, now thats a different story and a different sport.
