I dont understand...finals appereances or championships? Our team is undeniably better, and we would probably be able to offer more money

There's no way to make up ground from a salary standpoint. I've maintained this since the very beginning. If Melo's confident about Rose's health, nothing the Rockets do can overcome this. If Melo's NOT confident about Rose's health, nothing Chicago does can make them more attractive than Houston. You think Melo wants to carry a Rose-less Bulls like he just carried an Amare-less Knicks and get blamed for everything?

In the end, it's still Derrick Rose's health that's key. Nothing else really comes close.

I know not to take rumors seriously, but in this case there seems to be quite a trend. The fact that Rose will likely not be there to make Melo his FA offer is probably not a good thing.

Rose is not recruiting Melo and didn't recruit LeBron back in 2010 either.

Rose is a biophysics nightmare, the stress put on his knees makes it a case of when, not if.

Of course it is. They haven't declined Parsons' option yet.

All we've seen is news articles hinting that that's their current intention. They could easily pack him up along with Asik and Lin (rookie contract). The Knicks would have to worry about re-signing him next year, but they would also have his Bird rights.

Until they actually sign the dotted line and give notice to Parsons that his option is being declined, he's in play as much as anyone else.

Rose not recruiting is not a big deal. But the NY Daily News stating that Rose prefers KLove is BS. Pathetic attempt by NY media to hang onto Melo. Sorry NY, Melo is out of there.

Anyone backing up Rose is going to be the eventual starter.

Why? Because I am a realistic Rox fan? We have a better chance at getting Rondo than Melo or Love.

Realistically, I think we get Millsap and maybe Collison. Not a HR but a single and a double aren't bad. Still lose in the 1st or 2nd round though. In the LBJ era, you need someone who can slow him down (Kawhi) or a coach that can gameplan for him (Carlisle). We have neither.

You are correct... it is possible to trade Parsons... though perhaps with one exception.

    per Bimathug -
Under the CBA, a player cannot be traded between the end of the regular season and June 30 if that player COULD become a free agent on July 1.

I know this applies to player options and Early Termination Options. I also believe it applies to TEAM options.

Therefore, if Parsons COULD be made a free agent by the acquiring team declining his option, then (I believe) Parsons cannot be traded. If, however, the Rockets exercised their team option on Parsons (meaning that Parsons would not be able to become a free agent until 2015) and THEN traded him, that would be legal.

If I were the rockets, I'd definitely trade Parsons, Lin and Asik for Carmelo. And If I were the Knicks i wouldnt stress about being able to resign an unrestricted Parsons in 2015, since I would have his bird rights tons of cap space to rebuild the team and of course the locale of NY city, which I'm sure Parsons would be amenable to.

And which team would be above the apron?

That note was for teams over the apron receiving a signed and traded player. If the Rockets do not decline Parsons option then he is under an existing contract. The Knicks could sign Melo and then trade him for Asik, Lin and Parsons.

The Rockets could not decline Parsons option and sign and trade him to NYK since they are over the apron.

I just don't see how anybody can be confident about Rose's health, plus even when he was back last year he wasn't even close to being the same player. He hasn't played a good game in 26 months and has had two major injuries since then... how can anybody be confident in that?

If Melo is going to risk all of that he should just stay in New York and put his faith in Phil Jackson and magic fairy dust.

New York would have 81 million dollars in salary before even taking into consideration Parsons new contract. Not only that, Parsons would have to agree to that.

    Its not happening.
