I always love trades brought up by Celtics fans because they always end up being something like "Olynik for Lebron and Miami's next 3 first round picks, who says no?"
It's exciting that our gm is going all out for a 3rd star. But I don't think most of us realize how missing out on this 3rd star is going to affect us. We will probably decline parsons option if we are going for it so that we can resign him over the cap after. Kevin Love has zero chance of coming here. Lebron is probably going to stay in Miami, we are definitely not the front runners and on top of the fact that he's already there, best friends are there, he knows how bad of a pr hit it would be to come to Houston. Melo has always been my hope for this summer but from what I'm hearing Chicago is the front runner. Bosh is staying in Miami, with lebron. So after we miss out on these guys we have to sign parsons which will cap us out. Maybe, we end up signing someone like Lowry before resigning parsons, but even that I doubt that. We should stop listening to the media and getting excited about our all out pursuits.
I agree. Most likely guy seems Melo and I don't think he's really that much of a catch. But pining for some of these guys may prove to be fruitless and set you up for heartbreak.
Btw, the prototypical superteam has been the Spurs. Rockets have to figure out how to play like or beat that type of team. Miami was way bigger defensively AND offensively than the Rockets and STILL got blown out by the Spurs.
if the currents rockets lineup gets major changes again, its only going to make them further rather than nearer to a championship. they need at least 1 or 2 more seasons together to really gel.
not only that, when the heat were making that big comeback in game 3, Chalmers couldnt hit a barnyard door to save his ass. Killed all the momentum
Figure out how to beat the Spurs?....correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we sweep the Spurs this year? http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2014/04/rockets-complete-season-sweep-of-spurs/#22105101=0
Spurs were also swept by Thunder and look what happened in the playoffs. There would be 0% chance Rox would have beaten Spurs in a 7-game series in the playoffs this season.
yea, look at what happened. Ibaka missed the first 2 games and the spurs had a 2-0 lead. It's very difficult to come back from down 2-0 against an elite team. If Ibaka was healthy for the whole series, the result may have been different.
What you said also points out the importance of matchups. Do I think the Rockets would have beaten the Spurs in a 7 game series? No, but it is a good matchup for the Rockets and not impossible. You add Melo to the Rockets and let the Spurs age another year and the Rockets very well could win.
The Thunder and the Spurs played to a virtual tie(2-2 with no point differential) in their series with Ibaka. And not even a fully in-shape Ibaka. The Mavs took the Spurs to 7 games and no one's freaked out about them next year. Yes, matchups matter. The Rockets match up better against the Spurs because they aren't nearly as good against young athletic teams. The Heat were perfect because they were old and couldn't move on offense nor defense.
Even with those two having a subpar game, they still beat Rockets. It just shows you how much better the ELITE NBA teams than everyone else.
While you hope so, I seriously doubt a couple of more seasons will do that much. Rockets may eventually get to some semblence of a poor man's Miami team but even then that doesn't mean they can beat Miami or the other elite teams. Everyone hoping for that one special player to transform the Rockets past Miami, Spurs or OKC. Don't know if that player is available.
Part of the reason why Spurs blew out Miami and played at such a super high level was the urgency they felt in needing to win championship. It was a David vs Goliath situation and the every one of Spurs played their hearts. Miami just couldn't match that intensity. There was signs all year that Miami had gotten a bit softer. They no longer rank near the top as the best defensive team.
Miami is way bigger than the Rockets? What inside presence does Miami have offensively or defensively? Miami won their title last year with Shane Battier at PF and Bosh at Center. San Antonio wins their first title in 7 years and now everybody has to try and play like them? Why? If you're going to try and copy cat any team then it should be Miami. They've been much more successful that SA over the last 4 years.
