No doubt LaLa's first choice would be LA.

Carmelo needs to tell his girl that wherever he plays...he plays. He's 30, maybe he has 5 or 6 more years left. They can live wherever they want to after he retires.

If the Knicks were going to ship out Melo to a capped out team, I imagine they would want some combination of elite talent, expiring contracts, capspace, picks, or young talent with promise. The Clippers aren't trading Griffin. Is Deandre Jordan a center piece? He has an expiring deal worth $11 million. That creates another problem for the Clippers. JJ Reddick has too much left on his deal to be appealing to the Knicks. I don't think they could cobble up a combo of Jared Dudley, Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford that helps the Knicks clear enough cap space for 2015. The cupboard seems to be pretty bare with picks, too. I don't see how the Clippers can swing a sign-and-trade for Melo and it probably wouldn't help their title chances if they did.

Lala reminds me of the Lala in "He got Game."

"And why shouldn't Lala get paid, huh?
Why shouldn't Lala get something outta this? Everybody else is.
You want me to live in Lala-land? Is that what it is?"

how does that not affect their 2015 free agency plans? Every player you put there has 2+ years remaining on their contracts which would limit the amount they could spend on free agency in 2015 significantly.

So does that mean any sign and trade between the Rockets and the Knicks would necessarily involve a third team?

I think Bima is the better guy to ask for this one. He is actually a lawyer and certainly understands the language. But I don't see how we can do any sign in trade with the Knicks that does not bring them below the tax threshold.

Actually, what he proposed can happen. What the Knicks cannot do is RECEIVE a player that's being S&Ted. And that trade proposal contained no such players.

it says the team over the apron can not receive the sign and traded player, the team over the apron can receive a player in a sign and trade as long is it decreases their salary and gets them below the apron.

I'm interpreting a player as any player in the transaction and the player as being the signed and then traded player only. Perhaps I am interpreting that wrong.

I sent a couple of tweets out to Larry Coon and Bima asking for some clarification.

technically we are still in the 2013/2014 season so any trade in the Trade Machine includes this past season as one of the contract years. So if it says 2 years remaining on the contract, it is referring to 2013/2014 & 2014/2015 seasons.
