Completely agree. I'm balls deep into the Google eco-system. I'd consider it if it had affordable pricing, but this is a big no for me. I do like the phone and the way it looks. 4.7 is the perfect size. **** 5 inch phones.

Amazon phone has neat gimmicks, but is a fail in every other area.

Priced like a flagship with mid level specs.
    Carrier exclusive.
    Android without any Google services.

This thing needed a real advantage in price and didn't get it. Oh well. The 3D thing will be neat to check out in a store.

It kills me that the S5 just got released and they're already rumored to be bringing out an "S5 Prime" in the Fall. The G3 has barely even begun selling and there are already rumors about its successor coming out with a faster/more efficient CPU (Snapdragon 805).

Enter to win a free One plus One, or an invite to buy it

Enter to win a free One Plus One through that link. They're only giving one out, but they are also giving 2,500 invites away to buy it. Anyone that enters through that link will give me a better chance to win one.

If I win one, I'll get three invitations as well, which I will pass out to anyone here than enters and wants one.

I'm holding out for a couple weeks to see what happens with the One, and then I'm buying an Oppo Find 7a if I still can't get the One.

About the only thing I look forward to with the Fire Phone is some dev on XDA figuring out how to extract the Amazon Prime Video app and upload it as an apk.

Try t-mobile free for 7 days

T-Mobile will let you try their network for free for 7 days. They'll send you an iPhone 5s (wish it were android) to try for 7 days. No cost, other than a $700 hold on your credit card. If you return the phone damaged, it'll cost you $100. If you lose the phone, they keep the deposit.

The only other kicker is I'm not sure if you have to buy a sim card from them for ten bucks.

    I may try this out.

Also, streaming music will apparently try no longer count towards data usage.

I know Amazon and Google are in a death match, but this is what kills it for me. They should allow all Google services (or at least the essentials like search, gmail, maps, etc) and try to wean people down the line after establishing themselves in the smartphone market place. No Google services along with being carrier exclusive to AT&T is like putting up a big STOP sign.

But there may be a method to the madness. Amazon could be trying to work the bugs out before releasing something much better and less expensive next time.

Seems like a nerfed Android experience by preventing Google services for someone like me. They could have the best of both worlds by including the Play store and applying the Fire features as a super skin compared to Sense, Touchwiz, etc.

Instead it looks like half a phone - no point in nice features if I can't get things done on it. Amazon prime video and music are not enough to give up functionality.

I think Amazon would have fared better if they priced this similar to a Nexus phone or Moto X. $649 off contract seems like too much given the OS and overall hardware. I didn't see what size battery they put on this thing, but I do like that they opted for 720p. I'd rather have 720p screen with great battery life than a 1080p phone with average battery life.

Yes, I am very satisfied with my S5. Everyone seems to like it. Its not exactly revolutionary and it wont make you the stud on the block like an Iphone (is suppose to) would, but it does everything you can ask for.

Im just waiting for a good custom ROM.

I use Google Hangout for SMS, just so all my SMS and Gmail friends are in one area.

My girlfriend and I use Disa (alpha stage right not, but very functional). It combines SMS and Whatsapp into one messenger . Facebook and Telegram soon to follow.

Prior to that she used Chompsms. Hello Sms is pretty popular.

    Music Player = PowerAmp
Best music player for Android OS

I dont use my phone for music.

I use the standard VZW message client. I message (much) more on my FB messenger app. I know there are plenty of clients for both of those platforms

I'm leaning towards the HTC One M8 Harmon Kardon edition. I'm upgrading from an S4, and it's nice to see people are happy with the One. That being said, I have a couple of quick questions:

Is the Harmon Kardon edition worth the slight premium?

Does anybody here have the Dot View Case? The videos look awesome, but I'm hoping to get personal experience and feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not in Houston. I know their coverage is decent there, but for me, I'm running from Sprint as fast as I can. I don't think any phone is worth me staying with them at this point. Unless something changes quick.

Thanks for the reply Eddie. I've read about many unhappy sprint folks. Is it strictly a coverage issue? Or is there more to it I should consider before making the switch?
