Well they drew last cup so it's entirely possible. Especially with it being the 3rd group game the the Swiss might not have much legs left to be running in the tropics.
Diego Benaglio is a terrific goalkeeper, but he screwed that second goal up. But he redeemed himself (but not really) with the penalty.
Benaglio should have been outside of the box to intercept Varane's long pass. I'm pinning that goal on him slightly. Bad game for him so far.
Swiss cheese defense. How do you let Giroud of all people break out on a counter off of a corner kick on the other end?? Giroud is slow as molasses.
True, but being in the weakest group in the Cup doesn't hurt things either. There isn't a single team that can match them for 90 (let alone 45 apparently) minutes in this group.
France has not been tested yet. They were gifted a really weak group. Their true test will come after the group stages.
A lot had to do with Domenech and the mutiny in South Africa. Talent was always there. Like the Netherlands who won nothing but kept going at the Finals.
Errr.... what do you say about the Swiss team that had played 4 or 5 games without conceding a goal? I guess it was 2006, they are just not being that team, or the one that defeated Spain back in 2010?
Well.....I sure haven't seen them today. I'm not denying that Switzerland plays a steady brand of soccer, but I don't think they were ever a threat to win the group.
No one can defend the Swiss getting a seed. They didn't qualify for the Euro 2012 and they won the weakest qualifying group (with Iceland as the second best team). The good thing is France at least is playing like a seeded team so it evens itself out. Now if this group had Bosnia and Switzerland then it would have been the worst group in recent world cup history.
True, but their team play, combinations and counter attacks are brilliant today. They finally look like a cohesive unit that plays up to its talents.
Feeling good about my predictions regarding France, Italy and Belgium. France is a powerhouse from now on.
