I don't see how they butt heads.

Mchale runs the overall plan, Hollins has complete control over the defense.

Clearly define the roles the coaches will play and it shouldn't be a problem.

I still don't understand why we didn't go all out after blatt.
Not many coaches in the world know more basketball than him, he gets analytics as well as morey does, he has been the perfect assistant coach in the past and is willing to do so now, if the rockets will make a solid offer and a future as a head coach in the near future.
I like hollins, he's a good coach, but i don't think he will be as effective on the rockets and their type of basketball.
Still, if not blatt, I prefer hollins over anyone else

Blatt was offered a HC position. The Rockets can't do that.

Also, Hollins is a much better pitch to any FA out there, whether he be LeBron or Melo. Having Hollins in the room when the Rockets make their pitch would be much more impactful than Blatt.

Come on down Hollins! Only LA left and they will more than likely go with Byron Scott.

McHale being extended has backed the Rockets into a corner.

I'd take Hollins, Messina, Blatt or even Quin Snyder over McHale in a heartbeat. There's something to be said for having X's and O's as a HC -- like what happens if you lose an Assistant Coach like Sampson?

Still, we have who we have. We can only hope that McHale finds a reasonable assistant coach to shore up the defense and diversify the offense.

It truly is depressing to see teams with great team Defense and great team Offense when you think about the atrocity that the Rockets put on the floor...

Please let Hollins come...no doubt he replaces McHale as HC after next season when our defense shoots to the top 10.

First of all, he wasn't extended. His option was picked up.

Second of all, McHale brings the one thing no other person in the organization besides Les can bring, championship rings.

There's no correct way to say what's the best type of coach. Phil Jackson, Rudy T, Doc Rivers... McHale is the guy who people listen to when he speaks. Lionel Hollins has a bunch of rumors about him hating stats. I'd rather McHale be the lead man and Hollins being the expert defensive geek in the room.

Yes, I believe McHale's sole purpose with this team is recruiting players based on his rings and "players' coach" persona... The guy is a complete liability as far as late game managing, offensive sets, and overall defensive gameplan goes.

The Rockets were already Top 10 most of this past season.
The only significant drop off came when Beverley and Howard were both out for extended time.

I hate how we were top 10. It's such a lie.

End of the day, there's no way we trust our players in the game-tight situations.

We were horrible in coverage. We're good 80% of the time, but to be the best, we need to cover that 100% of the time.

I am a big fan of Hollins, would love to have him aboard. What an addition to the coaching staff that would be.
