Italy has to beat Uruguay by a lot and England has to beat Costa Rica by a lot as well. The ranking of teams in each group is based on: Points in all group matches, with 3 points awarded for a win, one point for a draw and none for a loss. Goal difference in all group matches Goals scored in all group matches Points in matches between tied teams Goal difference in matches between tied teams Goals scored in matches between tied teams Drawing of lots
Am I missing something here?? Italy and Costa Rica both have 3 points going into their match. If they tie, they will both have 4. The most points England can end up with now is 3.
It does work. England can make it as long as anyone else doesn't get 6 points but this will be impossible because the Azurri and the Ticos will play each other, so one of them will have to win. England doesn't have to "destroy" Costa Rica, but beat them by 2 or the differential between them and Costa Rica or Uruguay. Fyreball, peep this! Here's my proposal... because ITALY vs. COSTA RICA can go to the Azurri:
Wow, the crazy thing is, those predictions aren't too far fetched. How crazy would it be if England qualified!
disregard, realized you were laying out what NEEDS to happen in order for England to advance. Not just simply stating that someone will win the game.
^ DaF*Q does "far-fetched" mean to you? EFF THAT S. Throw all that crap out the window when you play FOOTBALL!!! Spain lost their first game of the Cup last time and won it all! I will cite THREE examples: Did you think Spain would lose their first two?!?! Did you think Costa Rica would beat Uruguay 3 to 1?!?!!? Did you think Mexico would tie 0-0 with HOST Brazil?!??!? Thank you. I'll be here all month and next.
Should I answer such silly question? I know nothing about how much you value football on the top stage of the world over boring nothing time, is that boring time any good?.
Seeing as how I haven't left my house in two days and I've watched 5 games in that amount if time, I don't think it's crazy to sit one out.
Not to be a douche (because that's your role on these boards :grin, but I didn't think Spain would beat Chile or Holland, I knew Costa Rica would beat Uruguay (Been following them for four years and knew how terrible they were), and I had a good feeling Mexico would either tie or win. Mexico has ALWAYS played extremely well against Brazil, I gotta give em props for that. But your point remains true, this stuff is all extremely unpredictable.
Sure - 1.25 goals per game = not boring by Italy standards. And remember, the reigning Euro champ during that month of running the gauntlet of European golden generations you mentioned earlier, half of whom they never played? Greece. Holla. Sure makes Spain's 7 year run pale in comparison! Viva italia!
You're never a douche if you answered the questions politely. It is NOT a far fetched thing... you said it yourself. I'm upset at how many people don't value the HEART AND PASSION of these players no matter where they're from. All the rankings and placements of these peeps go out the window when the ref whistles the start. Don't you agree?
im not trying to take anything away from Spain, just stating the obvious that the national teams of today were nothing like the national teams back then. I dont believe spain would have won 3 straight tournaments if Italy, Brazil, France, Argentina all had national teams of that quality from 10 years ago. Its simple logic, better competition would make it much more difficult to win.
