And let's not act like he was worth anything more than a scrubby scrub scrub here.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting they got anything other than depth. Still better than letting him walk out the door.

Thanks Ima. If you hadn't mentioned that, someone who read my post where I said we traded a scrub for a scrub might have thought we traded something more than a scrub for a scrub!

I figured they'd get something for him.

It might not be a fifth round pick, but with the injury last year, Dent has upside to at least be a solid backup/rotation guy.

It's a win for both teams.

Man, what a cool/good trade. Proud of Rick Smith right now. The last time a fun, unexpected transaction with upside took place it was for Buchannon (who sucked). But hey, I like the aggressive action.

Also - thanks for the GREAT, ACCURATE INFORMATION JOHN MCCLAIN. ****ING IDIOT. GET HIM THE **** OFF THE RADIO AND OUT OF HOUSTON. Jesus, man. What a loser.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Texans cut QB T.J. Yates; Case Keenum takes backup spot <a href="http://t.co/jdsrS42sqP">http://t.co/jdsrS42sqP</a></p>&mdash; John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) <a href="https://twitter.com/McClain_on_NFL/statuses/479246822066515968">June 18, 2014</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

His track record is terrible. What he is doing as a reporter is unacceptable. When he's interviewed on the radio he acts like some all-knowing insider. He's an embarrassment to the Houston sports media. Should have shipped his worthless ass off with the Oilers.

Backup...??? I wouldn't be surprised at all if he starts on the inside next to Cushing. Other than Cushing, isn't Dent the most experienced ILB the Texans have...? Putting Brooks inside could be a disaster and there is a possibility that Clowney isn't ready to be a starter and just be a situational player so Brooks would have to stay on the outside. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I just like that it gives us options.

Supposedly he has good intangibles and is a solid tackler, Reed pretty much owns the second ILB spot but this guy has a shot to take spot snaps and special teams.

YouTube college video, if you have too much time and are curious.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/kAghyQ3m13Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In the video, he gets pushed around by bigger blockers a couple of times when a better prospect would hold ground. He's looks like a good tackler, but not Chris Borland level excellent - just more conscientious than the average poor tackler in college football. He lets Marcus Lattimore slip out of his wrap up at least once.

Granted only one short, old, video, but that is my first impression.

Can't be worse than Bradie James.

I hardly think he owns that spot. But who knows at this point.

Getting a multi-game starter for Yates isn't shabby. I think Dent only lost his job because they had more invested in the guy coming back from injury (weatherspoon).

I though Dent was MLB and Weatherspoon a OLB?

I believe someone was saying earlier that they might be getting/resigning/whatever Tim Dobbins? i feel like he would be behind Reed for the next spot

We may not necessarily know how good/bad those options are but I'm with you.

Right before Clowney had his surgery Romeo pretty much said he's not handing JD the starting job... I heard today that he may not be ready for the start of training camp (I don't know how true that is I'm waiting on JR to post something if it is), if so it's possible the Texans acquiring Dent is a reaction to that. The timing of this is interesting.

That would be a big help. I doubt Romeo will go with a guy who could barley play OLB and has never played ILB (as far as I know) over two guys with experience and production at the position but you could be right.
