Should we bring in Bosh?

Obviously the first target is LeBron, if he opts out. If we can't get him, then I think Bosh is the best choice. Plus I don't think he would require a max contract. So let's say we draft at #25. Trade Lin, DMo and a future pick for cap space. You could keep Jones and trade Asik for a future pick, plus a servicable backup that makes less than $3M and still sign Bosh for $14M a year. I think that is pretty reasonable for him.

Obviously even better would be a scenario where we could trade #25 and Asik to get a top 10 pick. Get an impact player there. Still trade Lin and DMo with a pick for the rest of the space and still have $14-15M to sign Bosh. Of course that is risky because we'd have to do it before FA even starts.

But Bosh is certainly a perfect fit at the 4. I think I would rather have him, Parsons, our #25 pick, Jones, and all our future 1sts than just Love.

That's vastly overpaying Bosh and not really making our team much better...possibly even making it worse than the one we had last year actually.

I think we should look at Josh McRoberts as someone who can give us a really great 25 minutes. He's enough of a threat from 3 to space the floor, one of the best passing PF's and though I have read his defense is poor, I wonder how bad it can be if he started for an excellent defensive team which made the playoffs (albeit in the East).

If we have our MLE when all is said and done, and need some depth at the 4, I would love for the Rockets to consider him.

The people on this forum have a fetish with long, expansive threads with lots of information buried deep inside.

It makes no sense because it's much harder to navigate and find information in a really long thread.

It also means fewer people are going to read and follow the discussion taking place in a long thread, which means less replies... which means it's more boring around here.

Only if we strike out with LeBron, Carmelo, and Rondo then it becomes an option

I mean, you are an enormous Bosh hater, so I am not surprised. You have said time and again that you don't think he is a real upgrade from Terrance Jones. An opinion that is certainly shared by Terrance Jones and...likely no one else. As I, and others have said, Bosh is a huge upgrade for next year and certainly huge for the next 3 years, which would be without Lin and Asik and with no other options for real upgrades if Parsons is given an extension this offseason. He is better for the Rockets in literally every phase of the game vs. our current 4s and the realistic options of other 4s. That is is even before considering his ability to spot minutes at the 5, which is huge.

For the Bosh doubters, here's my question:

Would you have wanted Rasheed Wallace, between the ages 30 and 33, on this team with a lucrative contract?

I would. And these two guys are pretty similar, except Rasheed shouted more and had a cool catch phrase.

I'm not sure why the OP is saying Bosh can shoot the 3. He's no better than Josh Smith percentage wise. In his last 4seasons he shot 24%, 24%, 28%, and 33% from beyond the arc. That's bad. So, no, he's not a good fit for the Rockets, who rely heavily on the 3 point shot.

Chris Bosh has only begun to shoot 3s in significant numbers this past season-- after, Bosh said, Shane Battier convinced him to take more of these in place of long 2s. So this is a new skill and he is showing progress. He attempted more 3s in 2013-14 than he did in the prior 4 seasons combined.

The 34% he made from the arc in 2013-14 is not great, but good enough to create space for teammates. There are also reasons to believe that he will continue to shoot 3s at around 34% or improve upon it. Unlike guys like Josh Smith, Chris Bosh has long been a very good mid-range shooter and free throw shooter so his basic shooting mechanics is good.

    Bosh's career FG% from 16-23 feet is 45.6%. For Josh Smith, it's 34.8%. Bosh's career FT% is 80%, Smith's is 64.2%.

Bosh would be a decent 4th option, but he's not worth over 10 mil a year and I'm sure he thinks that he is. Also, there's just a ton of better options in FA.

There most certainly are not a "ton of better options in FA." At most there will be 2 in LeBron and Melo. Name all the other better players that will be available in FA. I mean it is one thing to not like a player very much, but that is just blatantly untrue.

And 10M or 14M really doesn't matter much for the Rockets in that situation if we are going far over the cap for Parsons.
