Would he butt heads with Morey or Mchale?

Not many people butt heads with Mchale, hence why he still has his job and Jackson doesn't.

Morey? it'd be a good way for Hollins to rebuild his reputation though, but Morey from reports isn't the type of guy to wave **** in his face and tell him "this is how you do it" which is what Memphis were doing.....

Hollins should get more money than Mchale too

Maybe butting heads is a good thing, since conflict and contrast could be a good thing for a team. Don't want a "yes man" running the team. I think the contrast of mchale and Hollins would be good for Houston.

So I guess this just leaves LAL for possible HC gigs?

If its between us and LAL, we win! :p Who do the Lakers have, that we don't besides an aging, way past his prime, now injury-prone Kobe Bryant? Oh yea and that actor/laker's season ticket holder in Jack Nicholson?
    Oh yeah, and Mr. Ostrich?

But it's head coach vs. assistant coach.

He would be the head coach in waiting in Houston, while in LA he would be dealing with the mess that is the LA media and Magic Johnson if things don't go smoothly.

LaL being the only likely spot left is good news but its also laL and egos are an amazing thing.

I haven't skimmed through this thread, so it's probably been discussed before, but Hollins is very old-school, and is pretty staunchly against the analytics movement.

He's a quality coach who demands respect from his players (not unlike Pop), but he also struck me as stubborn - almost overly so.

Him butting heads with Hollinger and other Memphis execs were a large reason as to why he was let go of, despite their team success in his last year. They thought they could anoint Joerger as their "puppet" coach, not unlike what we've done with McHale, but he proved to be against owner Robert Pera's micro-managing style.

So basically, Memphis's FO is known to be controlling, much like ours, but ours seems to have a much better collection of basketball minds leading the charge. Either way, any controlling FO would seem to clash (in theory) with an old-school coach like Hollins.

Maybe he realized he has to get down with the analytics movement to get a HC job in a league where most teams are going in that direction.

This is why I thought we'd never go after him. But I think he'd have a hard time finding a team without an analytic slant these days.
