What player that we are trying to acquire has a good relationship with Hollins?

The idea that Morey just wanted puppets was always silly. what Morey would like it a coach that would actually have SOME relationship with the front office... which is what many successful organizations have.

More likely he's sought after to help players already on the roster.

Hollins wants to stay in the game and sitting a year or two on the Rockets bench would keep him in the game, doing what he likes until a head coaching job opens up. Also, Hollins gets paid.

I don't doubt that's part of it, but I imagine there's multiple angles to this. Remember, McHale was one of the reasons Dwight liked Houston.

Of course that's true, but many here don't believe that.

Love him or hate him, the notion that Kevin McHale is ONLY a figurehead is silly and unjustified.

Does McHale help as a recruiting tool? Yep. Do the Rockets want an accomplished lead assistant next to McHale? Sure. But that doesn't mean that McHale doesn't make the ultimate coaching decisions (if he elects not to delegate/defer to his assistants).

I tend to think of McHale is a Mack Brown type. An amazing recruiter. Not the best tactician. But the head COACH nonetheless.

    Nah...

McHale is the head coach, they kept him because they did not see a clear upgrade and want continuity.

Hollins would be added because defense is his specialty, he has a lot of experience and is respected by his players.

It is just a smart hire, even with the inevitable growing pains between the new guard (Morey) and the old guard (Hollins).

The Rockets are attempting to go ALL IN.... they want to bring aboard the best staff, another star and I fully expect Morey and Alexander to try and structure everything in such a way that the Rockets can use the MLE and BLE.

I think Hollins would be good addition, but not nearly as good as bringing JVG back...but I digress! (MT ref.)..;)

    This.....

McHale was choosen in part because of his leadership and ability to work with other people. The Rockets knew he was not Larry Brown when it came to X's and O's and didn't expect him to be. That is what the assistants are for.... reminds me of Doc Rivers in Boston or KC Jones in Boston.... both won titles and both delegated to their assistants.

    BTW ......

    What do you think?

This only adds credence to my belief that the Rockets are all in. They are not holding anything back for 2015. They intend to add the third star and then expend every cent necessary that they can under the rules to get the team ready to make a run at a Championship.

That's some backward thinking. JVG gets paid 2X what a coach gets paid working for Disney and George isn't a very good coach.

While Houston, in my opinion, remains the one franchise where Van Gundy might consider being lead assistant coach, with the idea that eventually he'd either move up to HC, or move on to become head coach somewhere else (he lives in Houston, loves it there, and has a history with the Rockets, still singing their praises after all these years), I can't imagine George Karl becoming an assistant. Just can't imagine it. I'm sure he can't, either!

Would he make us a ELITE defensive team with our current players? I believe so.

The guy turned zbo into a disciplined player, I can't imagine what he could do for harden, I love this possibility.

Get Hollins. And also get Metta World Peace to scare Harden into playing D.
