That the Rockets are trying to hire Hollins is proof positive that the Morey haters who think he just forces the team to play in his image are wrong. Morey and Hollins couldn't be more different in their approach to the game, yet Morey respects him and wants him on the coaching staff.

If they hire him, that's a credit to both men. Hollins being willing to work as part of a team that values statistics way more than he thinks they should be valued and Morey hiring a man who feels that way to be a testament to two people being able to respect the other despite their differences.

They need to pay Lionel Hollins more than what Mchale's is getting. Sounds nuts because it is but that will probably be the only way he agrees. He knows he is a better coach than Mchale and it's insulting to be doing a head coaches job but carry the title of assistant coach.

McHale would just be just the face and Hollins, the brain. That would be better.

It's just the Lakers and Cavaliers, correct? Any news on who the Lakers are chasing? I expect they are the only suitor for Hollins, as the Cavs have been focusing in on a couple other candidates (Lue, Blatt, Jackson). If Morey is serious, I expect he'll sell Hollins on the fact that this is McHale's last year, and that this can be a launching pad, i.e. get him back in the game for a year before moving on to a HC spot elsewhere.

I would want this resolved before July 1, and I expect Hollins knows this.

The people who say that stuff are too stupid to realize they've been wrong all along.

Don't understand this. So we hire Hollins and he gets a HC gig halfway through the season??? Kelvin Part II????

Why do we want to go through this again?

Only two jobs left: Lakers and Cavs. Both supposedly waiting for LeBron James to tell them who to hire.

He won't get an NBA HC gig halfway through the season. Unless you think he is going to jump to college, he'd be here for a full season. I don't think NBA teams are even allowed to hire people currently on a bench during the season.

I don't blame him. If he comes here as the lead assistant and the team does well, McHale probably hangs onto his job(as long as he wants it anyway). And if the team underachieves(another first round exit), there's no guarantee that Hollins isn't canned along with McHale and the rest of the staff.

Unless it's to use the Rockets as a springboard to a head coaching gig someplace else, I don't get why he'd bother. And if that is what happens, that doesn't exactly help out the Rockets in the long run.

Because Morey's trying to get a coach who'll get in the face of players (especially of Harden) and challenge them. No mamby-pamby this or that. Less chance of being ignored and doing what the hell you want to do and not doing what the hell you don't want to do.

Because Morey had to keep McHale because (a) Les likes McHale and/or (b) Les feels bad for McHale and/or (c) Les for whatever reason likes to keep a head coach for four years and/or (d) Les doesn't have a clue that McHale isn't much of a coach and/or (e) Les likes McHale's relatively-low salary.

So now Morey gets to make McHale sweat and possibly replace him in a year.

Seems the Rockets are very much against firing coaches, and much prefer to let their contracts run their course.

McHale is obviously being used as a recruiting device, and the Rockets clearly like Hollins as the next head coach.

Makes sense what they are doing.

I think he meant when McHale ultimately gets fired midway through this season lol... not sure if he's serious, but I don't see that happening.
